Treasure Coast Surfrider and the BUZZ 103.1 to host beach clean-up and fundraiser.

Jensen Beach, FL -- September 11, 2008 -- On Saturday, September 20, the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation will team up with BUZZ 103.1 FM to host a beach cleanup and fundraiser in coordination with Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup Day.

Ocean Conservancy's International Coastal Cleanup is the world's largest volunteer event of its kind. Last year, 378,000 volunteers from 76 countries and 45 states cleared six million pounds of trash from oceans and waterways and recorded every piece of trash collected

The Surfrider beach clean-up will begin at 9:00 a.m. at Frederick Douglas Beach, 3500 S. A1A on South Hutchinson Island in Fort Pierce. Volunteers also have the option to go clean their favorite beach as well.

At 6:00 p.m. the public is invited to join volunteers at the "Surfrider / Buzz 103.1 Coastal Cleanup Trash Bash" at Gators Dockside, 269 Port St. Lucie Blvd. The event will feature a food
buffet, live music and a premier of the environmentally-themed surf movie Out There at 7 p.m. Performances by Fillmore East and Moska Project will follow the movie. An ongoing prize raffle will be held throughout the evening. Prizes include surfboards, surf gear, skateboards, hand-carved tikis, gift certificates and merchandise donated by local merchants. A silent art auction will benefit Surfrider volunteer Morris Chen, who recently suffered a massive heart
attack and is in need of a heart transplant.
