BEDE Durbidge passed on this image of a 3m Great White caught on a state government hook off Cylinders, which was subsequently cut in half by the jaws of a much larger predator, estimated to be about 6m.
"That picture is out of this world. That shark was 10ft, so imagine how big the other shark was. It's scary to know what's out there when you're paddling back up the point at Cylinder. Sharks were always a part of growing up on Straddie. I went out on the shark run one time when I was young to check all the hooks with the guy, but we never saw anything like that, haha."
Sightings in Queensland's pointbreak belt have spiked in recent months as they chase the Humpback migration down the coast, herding weaker whales close to shore for an intimate dining experience.
"There's so much wildlife over there. You don't want to go surfing by yourself. I haven't had anything too bad, thank God. Just had some swim under me but keep cruising. A few of my mates have been bumped and hassled by them though.
Unfortunately all you nay sayers, this IS REAL. The footage(check the links below) was on our news here in brisbane and the shark helicopters were buzing the beachs all weekend. Big sharks are one of the hazards we deal with here in Australia (you South Africans know the deal). But if you think this is bad, go up north and go for a swim in a nice cool billabong (the difference between sharks and crocs is you are ALWAYS on the menu with a croc. Not too long ago a croc came up outa the water and grabbed a dude out of his tent! they just dont give a sh*t)
If this picture is fake so be it, BUT we can't be ignorant to to the fact that there are sharks out there bigger than that one and even that one would pack a puncture or two!
Every one who says it fake obviously does not surf that much. What surfer would lie about a shark. I believe it, if you don't keep surfing. You will see and then you will believe.
if it is not a fake, where are the others pictures ? and don't believe the news too much ortherwise you will slept for the rest of your life. I live in reunion island, i surf and there are some big shark, and attacks, and so what!
Great shot and a true story! I can't believe how many people jump straight on the 'fake' boat. This is on the Gold Coast, Australia where there are numerous large Bities. I guess from sitting in your townhouse in sunny Brighton it would be hard to believe.
This isnt fake, this is my home break, and its been all over the news, it's supposedly a 5m great white and it was last heard hanging around stradbroke, i assure you its not fake.
Sorry to inform you but we do have Killer Whales here in Australia I am a tuna spotter flying over the Great Australian Bight for the last 30 years. I can assure you that we see Killers Great Whites & many species of whales including the awesome Blue Whales.
Just to give you an idea of how big a 4.3m great white is, check out this one. The female great white got stuck in the nets at Durban. http://www.news24.com/Content/SouthAfrica/986/20c62037a77144db99b9328fa9ca9c16/29-10-2009-08-49/Shark_pics_cause_a_stir
Another angle, better quality and much more believable. The injuries all look the same, but it's not just the same photo rotated, because you can actually see into the smaller wound on the back. This may actually be real, although I still can't believe that there aren't any more photos or videos than just these.

who makes up this kind of shit? has anyone ever seen a shark bite that looks like you just cut the best steak ever? Post another pic of that shark and I might believe it.
The enforcer , the legend has returned , durum ,durum , durum , be very afraid ! ( if bitten in half shark size is correct the bite is about 100kg(or more) of prime shark , statistcaly this is very large and unusually large for a bite , could be looking at a real monster , anyone considered a tiger shark ?
Sharks are the great dustbins of the ocean, without them the oceans would be a biohazard. They tend to eat younger, injured or sick animals therefore keeping the overall stock fitter and healthier. That's one of the reasons swimmers can be snatched as their splashing is like an animal in distress.
They are not adverse to cannibalism. Indeed shark fetus' are known to kill and eat their siblings in the womb. Thus only the strongest survive.
Sharks are not bad they just do what they do. If you can't accept it stay out of their habitat. Humans are responsible for >70M shark deaths a year. Mainly for their fins only. When these are removed the poor helpless beast is left to starve to death as it lies at the bottom of the ocean . (this can take weeks)
Watched a documentary recently on Orcas (Killer Whales) and how they hunt down and kill Great Whites and do damage just like this...could that be what happened??
unfortunately it was not an orca. we dont have them here in queensland. well, not that I am aware of anyway. this segment was on the news and the clip taken with I think a phone video. Not photoshopped as mentioned below. VERY BIG shark did this to a big shark in itself. however it is the bull sharks that cause us the most grief here in queensland.
I was surprised to hear about a pod of orcas in the Gulf of Mexico this past year. I didn't think they spent any time in warmer waters until then. I'll look for the news article.

10 years ago witness in the south ausue desert saw a white consume a nz shearer in two single bits. board and and all. on his second bite he circled, dove and came up from beneath for his final mouthful.
Damn straight, though i don't really see the fuss! I mean i know that its a big bugger and thats kind of cool (almost Jaws like) yet i'm sure a bite from a 3 meter shark would be just as fatal and there are plently of them around. You know, just because it's double the size doesn't make it more likely to attack....but hey, what do i know, i'm a brit and the worse thing i have to worry about is a weaver with a bad attitude.!.!.
dude higgins is going to be great thurs day. and so is the left point break (close) to it. i need a ride. so hop on a plane and rent a car. ill supply the weed and chubby chicks
