A HERO to her Peruvian compatriots, Sofia Mulanovich's rags to riches story caught the imagination of a country attempting to rebuild and reinvent itself. Following her story from her earliest days right through to her winning the World Championship, our critics were united in declaring Renzo Giraldo's telling of the story a success - rendering two separate but intertwined stories in a unique and thought provoking fashion. However they just wanted a bit more surfing.
This girl absolutely rips! An enthralling film that, unlike many surf movies, tells a story that holds your interest from start to finish and restores your faith in the surfing community.Pat Cummins
Sofia's ability to surf is not in question, she rips, of more concern was the lack of surfing in a movie primarily marketed as a surf movie.
A direct criticism of the film is that it does not contain enough footage of actual surfing. When we do get shots of Mulanovich's surfing it is distinctly impressive, however this does not make up for the lack of it. Ben Jones
A point echoed by the final reviewer.
The movie is shot well and features a great Spanish soundtrack, but being more of a documentary, it doesn’t contain enough surfing.Richard de Beaufort
As a pure documentary this movie gets the nod, unfortunately it fails to deliver enough actual surfing to satisfy our surf-hungry reviewers. More ripping next time please.
