A captivating surf documentary following Sofia Mulanovich from childhood to surfing world champion. This heart warming story tells a story of dedication and determination in order to reach her ultimate goal. The film highlights the support given by her family and friends during this epic journey and portrays the Peruvian surfing community as one big happy family.
Upon realising her dream and winning the world title it becomes apparent that she has become a national icon in Peru, appearing on advertising billboards and national television news. Her achievements instill a massive sense of pride into Peruvians from all walks of life and give this impoverished nation a reason to hold its head high on the international stage. At the first ASP contest in Peru over 15000 spectators crowd the beach all wanting a glimpse of ‘their’ Sofia and it seems that every kid wants to learn to surf and follow in her footsteps.
The standard of her surfing is incredible and it is easy to see how she won the world title with such a smooth powerful style. This girl absolutely rips! An enthralling film that, unlike many surf movies, tells a story that holds your interest from start to finish and restores your faith in the surfing community. Not quite a rags to riches story in the ‘Slumdog’ style but an emotive tale of ultimate success in the face of relative adversity.
