South Swell: Puerto to Wedge » Landfall

THEY say timing is everything and this swell certainly had that, coming right on cue to bombard the Western Pacific coastline just as the surfing media's eyes were firmly glued on the US Open, hoping for decent contestable conditions. World Pro Surfers had their much-hyped expression session to run, there was a 100 thousand dollars in prize money at stake for the Open and suddenly the South Pacific woke up and provided a monster south-west swell. Attention was now focused upon the Pacific watching the 20 second period swell advance north-east. Some swells promise a lot and don't deliver and as this one made landfall at Puerto Escondido on the dawn of July 24th all the hype was suddenly washed away by the world's heaviest beachbreak.
