ABOUT US

Sunset Surf is a family owned and run business, set in the beautiful Gwithian Towans overlooking Gwithian Beach, St Ives Bay in Cornwall. With two generations of Scottish and Cornish roots, we took over the business in Easter 2005 and have continued to grow and develop Sunset Surf since then.

We pride ourselves on our friendly and welcoming environment, our well-trained and efficient staff and of course our fantastic sunsets.

We believe strongly in employing staff from the local area, working wherever possible with local suppliers and working hard to run a sustainable business with minimal impact to the environment.

Sunset Surf is proud to be:

• One of the largest surf hire centres in Cornwall offering a massive range of beginner, intermediate and advanced surfboards, as well as wetsuits, and accessories.
• An established Surf School that focuses on providing a safe and fun first experience of surfing for kids of all ages.

Learn to surf with Sunset Surf School!

Sunset Surf School is a Surfing GB approved Academy level surf school, ideally based just a short walk from the beautiful Gwithian Beach on St Ives Bay, which offers mellow and consistent waves all year round, the perfect location for catching those first rides and improving your surfing skills.

We offer a range of surfing experiences suitable for all levels of surfer looking to achieve a variety of surfing goals. Our main emphasis is on maintaining a fun and positive teaching environment with a strong focus on safety, while developing your surfing knowledge and experience.

Beginner Surf Lesson on Gwithian Beach

SURF HIRE

The Sunset Surf Hire/Demo Centre is the ideal destination for you to get hold of everything you need to get in the water and have some fun! We quite simply have THE best selection of Surfboards, Body Boards and Wetsuits available for hire or demo in Cornwall!

Our RNLI Surf Hire Safety Scheme approved Surf Hire/Demo Centre has an awesome selection of boards ranging from Soft Surfboards (such as those used in surf lessons), Soft-Top Surfboards (designed for intermediate/progressing surfers who want something more like a ‘real’ surfboard, whilst still maintaining the safety aspects of a Soft Surfboard), right through to our range of Hard Surfboards from Take Off (strong, light and in a fantastic range of shapes, sizes and colours – something for everyone!)

In addition to our range of Surfboards and Body Boards we also hire from over 300 C-Skins Summer and Winter Wetsuits – with wetsuit boots, gloves and headgear for those colder days!

SURF CHECK

Need to find out what the surf is doing down here at the beach? Our unique Surf Check page is THE place to get the best up-to-the-minute information on what the waves and weather are doing, right now!

Mounted on the roof of our surf shop, our high resolution live streaming webcam gives you a fantastic view of the beach and the surf conditions. Real-time weather updates and historical data are provided by our high-tech weather station, giving you the actual wind speed and wind direction readings from right here on the beach - a feature totally unique in Cornwall.

If that wasn’t enough information, we also include the detailed surf forecast from Magic Seaweed, and a daily eyeball surf report submitted every morning by our Head Surf Coach.

And if that’s still not enough information to make your mind up whether to come surfing or not, then just call the surf shop! More than likely one of us has been in for a surf before work and will be happy to give you a first-hand account of the conditions on the day!
