The name speaks for itself! World class spot and undoubtedly the best beach break in Portugal - when it's on. Long, heavy tubes are guaranteed as well as a few shut-down close-outs, such is the speed of this wave. The lefts are usually better. It's at its best with NE winds, a decent S swell and mid-tide, but these conditions don?t come around everyday.
There's no escaping the crowds or the foul smell from the nearby fish factory. Easy parking in front of the break.

This graph shows the percentage of days that had a ridable wind swell (7 seconds period or more) or groundswell (10 seconds period or more) of over 3ft. It also shows the dominant wind direction. Not all of these days will neccessarily give great surf, and very short lived wind swells or longer period secondary swells may produce surf not recorded, but it gives a clear idea of the seasonal trend and a rough guide to the chances of scoring something ridable.
