Surf Castle

Surfing in Baleal started around fifty years ago. Probably the first surfers were foreigners from countries which had long established surf cultures like Australia or America.

Locals from Surfcastle & Island started in the 60s... they bought their first boards from lonely traveling surfers. Nowadays surfing is a big part of this island's lifestyle.

The aloha spirit is deeply felt within everybody. Local people are totally used to see boys and girls with boards everywhere.

The local surfers have to be respected but are very open to showing you around. In the SurfCastle you will probably spend a lot of time with them.

But the main reason for such a positive energy all year around is that you can Surf in Baleal with offshore conditions almost everyday.

SurfCastle takes into account both physical and technical characteristics of each surfer who comes to our academy. We use the best materials and our teachers are highly qualified in order to provide our guests with the best surfing experience.

My name is Pedro "Ginjas" Pulido Valente. I've been surfing at Baleal for the last twenty years and I have never been out of the water for more than three months. Accomodation

SurfCastle provides excelent housing conditions. We offer three houses strategically placed in front of the sea. This means that while you are not surfing, you can easily watch the surf on location. All houses are equiped to provide comfort to Surfers.

Surf Castle has a central location in Baleal. Its front yard is one of the best reef breaks in Portugal, Lagido. All our rooms have a direct view on the ocean, and you can even check several surf spots from your window.
