Southerly facing this coastline picks up swell from South Atlantic's Roaring 40s although a deal of swell decay has occurred by the time the swell hits the long beaches and accessible point breaks of Ghana and the Ivory Coast. Swell consistency during the Monsoon season is extremely high but plagued by onshores. The slightly less consistent dry season (December to May) benefits from the cool and dry Harmattan wind which is offshore and from the north. Both countries share a similar geography but a contrasting political history with Ghana being historically the most stable and the Ivory Coast only recently recovered from a period of civil unrest. Sea temperatures rarely vary only changing between 24 and 25°C/75 to 77°F. Whilst becoming more popular surfing has yet to really take off amongst the local population.
