Bali and Lomboks's fabled reefs and booming beach breaks are in season between April and October when swell swinging up from the Roaring 40s and Howling 50s march south-west across the Indian Ocean and the trade winds blow from the south-east. Pioneered in 1936, by Bob Koke, a Californian from Hawaii and later by the likes of Jerry Lopez.
