Surf’s Up Surf School has achieved legendary status within the surfing community and beyond. We’re a home grown ‘grassroots’ family business (Our history) that has established itself as the number one surf training centre in the UK through reputation, recommendation and a track record of safe operation. And it’s our attitude to surf coaching that is unlike any other surf school in the UK - Innovative and progressive methods make the learning process fun and we’ve had time to develop our ideas over time.
We offer the highest level of instruction through the most experienced coaching team in the UK. This year we have a range of courses to suit everyone - from complete beginner to advanced surfer. We also offer accommodation on the beach, gap year adventures to New Zealand and two week trips to the surfing mecca of Bali.
Beginner - £25 - 21/2 hours
includes free use of surfboards and wetsuits - any shape or size Learning to surf can be a frustrating business. Just trying to balance on the board lying down can be a challenge! That’s why we’re here - we love surfing and we want you to as well. Since 1995 we’ve been teaching people how to ride the waves and shown in the right way, you too will be up and riding and impressing all your mates in no time. Most of our students get to stand up in the first lesson.
And this isn’t like school at all - the Surf’s Up! way is to treat you as an individual. make it fun and inspirational. And that way you’ll have an amazing time, learn loads and progress really quickly.
Intermediate - £25 - 2½ hours
You’ll already be a competent surfer in the white water, but are ready to take on unbroken waves. This can be a very frustrating phase in your surfing development but it offers the most reward. Catching your first unbroken wave and riding it across the face - it’s something that you never forget. Having a coach in the water with you is invaluable at this stage - someone to help you to read the wave, teach you to sit in the right spot, and then get you to to commit to paddling into the wave.
Weekender - £65 - 3 x 21/2 hours
It makes sense to maximise your time in the surf. You can spend weekend after weekend flapping around thinking you’re making progress when in reality you’re probably standing still. You might catch the odd good one - the ‘bring you back’ one, but you could be getting so much better.
The benefits are huge - and as instructors we recognise this. One of Kelly’s roles at Surf’s Up! is to develop the individual surfing skills of the instructors. And we love it - at every opportunity we grab Mohawk Man to give us some golden nuggets. It works - so less flapping, let’s use your limited time in the water constructively and get you ripping it up.
Lifes a Beach (House!)
Over 20 years ago, I was having a bad day in the office. I packed up my desk, sneaked out the back and drove until 4 hours later I could go no further. I’d arrived at Fistral Beach, Newquay (it was a slow car!). The surf was flat, the fog thick - but I felt fantastic. “How cool must it be to be a surfer and live down here?” I thought. I promised myself that one day I’d make the move. Just one year later and I’d packed up my desk for the last time.
Not everyone has the opportunity to up sticks and move here – but you do now have the chance to experience the surfer lifestyle at first hand. Our Beach House apartment in Polzeath is something we’re really proud of and offers a unique surf experience. Located directly on the beach at Polzeath puts you right at the heart of the surf scene. With the waves right on your doorstep, combine the quality you'd expect from Surf's Up! and the support of the most experienced surf coaching team in the UK, and you get what has to be the ultimate surfing vacation in the UK.
Go surfing and then chill over lunch in the garden overlooking the beach with the Surf's Up! staff before heading back into the waves again - stoked.

We’ve selected eight different beaches as our primary resource, each offering unique and special qualities, but there’s plenty of others to visit on our travels. We’ll be taking on the most remote places by motorhome, living right on the beach.

Bali is described as the most enchanting travel and surfing destination in the whole world. Surf's Up! now offer you the chance to go with one of the most experienced winter tour guides. Wailin - our Surf's Up! Beach Manager. Wailin has done 10 trips to Bali over the last 10 years normally lasting 2-3 months so he know his way around the place and has the surf conditions wired. He'll use this knowledge to guide you to the break best suited to your ability on the given day.
