The 1999 World Champ gets confused for just another weekend warrior, and cops a brutal drop-in in from a senile old gentleman. Despite this, Occy was buzzing around all weekend.© 2009 - Lee Pegus/WPSIt was the 12th year of the Burleigh Single Fin Contest and ex-World Tour termites came drilling out of the woodpile, to get their pre-1985 mono-skegs gliding at the home of man-on-man surfing.
Although Parko was a late a huge crowd still piled on to the fabled headland to catch a glimpse of Occy, Matt Hoy, Luke Egan and Bottle.
At the culmination of the two-day event put on by Burleigh Boardriders and Honolua, Occy and Luke both make it to the finals, though they were both upstaged by another Gold Coast local as former Aussie champ Paul Ward took the trophy.
