The Cove at Sandy Hook picks up and handles swell from all directions. Better than 1st Parking Lot, a natural point here creates mainly rights and occasional short lefts when the wide section breaks. Low to mid tide on a southerly swell is going to provide longer right walls on a bigger swell. The lower the tide, the higher the quality.
Often crowded, especially in summer when they limit the number of cars/people into the park. All facilities, no restrictions. Due to proximity to New York Harbor, commercial pollution is a strong possibility. The water is more turbid than the rest of Jersey. Nuclear sub base 5 mi (8km) from here.

This graph shows the percentage of days that had a ridable wind swell (7 seconds period or more) or groundswell (10 seconds period or more) of over 3ft. It also shows the dominant wind direction. Not all of these days will neccessarily give great surf, and very short lived wind swells or longer period secondary swells may produce surf not recorded, but it gives a clear idea of the seasonal trend and a rough guide to the chances of scoring something ridable.
