Long crescent of black sand with consistent peaks appearing on any swell with S in it. Can get big, hollow and heavy with swirling currents and lots of duck-diving.
Consistent but rarely worth the effort. Beautiful, isolated location that attracts the odd Icelandic beach bum and his family on good weather days.
Take highway one out of reykjavík. About 15 minutes out of reykjavik you make a right turn to Thorlakshofn. Drive that road for another 15-20 minutes to Thorlakshofn.
Coming to thorlakshofn from Reykjavik turn left to go to Selfoss just before arriving in thorlakshofn. Drive for 2-3 minutes and turn right on a dirtpath that leads to the beach.
