JOSH Kerr, Brad Gerlach, Taylor Knox, Brian Conley and friends score somewhere West.

Justis St John, the man with one of the most barrelled lenses in surfing and a quasi-religious sounding name chased a Biblical swell west a couple weeks ago alongside Brad Gerlach.

Meeting up with a couple of other tow teams down there (Kerr, Knox, Conley and Parsons) they presently threw themselves into the maw of some windy gapers, making some and getting a royal whomping on others.

When asked why they were fully rubbered up in 55f/13C water Justis claimed "us Seppos are wussies" which probably is up for debate on this evidence, but we'll take what we can.

Ever tried paddling into a 7'-8' howling off-shore with a shortboard? Not so easy. If there were loadsa guys out paddling on guns I'd say fair do's but looks like they weren't getting in anyone's way.., hopefully. Nice work!

Looks like a spot I surfed a few times 20 years ago south of Ensenada.

So glad i read other comments about towing. Thought it was just me. I saw a few waves which where big to warrent towing into if you felt knackered but some of those others? In big wave surfing there is a renewed push back to the old school of paddling into the waves. Sorry but this was mostly pure lazy! These guys are more than capable to paddling into the waves. Flet let down when i realised they were towed in!

to be honest i dont think they care, probably got 3 times as many waves than they would of, and i enjoyed seeing them get some mental barrels!

Whats wrong with peoples arms no-a-day's. Jet ski assiste for paddle out may be, if your that lucky. That's far less challenging than the Hossegor pro this year, and didn't see many of them moaning for tows (ok Mick almost drowned, but you know what I mean).

And with wind like that staying in the line up would be absolute missions.

West Coast Oz, or West Coast US? I feel like saying Ocean Beach in San Fran, but that would be too easy
CB HeadDIP414 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I'm think somewhere south of the border like Baja Malibu

i thought ocean beach for a second too, but there are some shots where you can see land behind it which leads me to believe it is else where

I'm probably wrong, but... peru??
bali_trader413 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
i originally thought peru, but then i noticed the military guy. The uniform the army wear in peru is green. spent a few months travelling up and down the coast there and encountered a lot of military trying to access remote breaks.also, peru has a distinct lack of quality rights and the only decent ones WE found were in the north where booties arent necessary. I think either north baja or possibly chile. epic day though, still dont think jet skis were necessary!

Absolutely sweet vid, some great rides, but towing?
Cornish-Surfer414 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
maybe because of how fast the wave is, just makes it easier.
bali_trader414 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
jetskis we're completely un-necessary i think. The wave did look fast, but not from take off. Theyre stalling half the time.
britishsurfing412 days ago +4 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
To be fair, the take off zone looks to be a solid 10-12ft, maybe more, but by the end of each wave they're in three foot barrels. Either way, a great session. And if I had access to a jet ski, I'd be getting pulled into anything above knee height, it just looks like a proper laugh.
