It's not DCC that fix the parking, it's NDDC. All I can suggest is that you use Marine Drive where the money goes to Mortehoe Parish Council. At least you know that the money will be put to genuine use and not fiddled expenses and keeping useless people in high paid jobs and pensions!

Woolacombe is a great place for a surf weekend. Great beach, almost always some sort of a wave, can get really classic too. Regarding the parking, since April 2011 the council has started being far more restrictive along the seafrint road. This is a real shame as some of the appeal was that before May you could park for free all day and night. this meant the Easter Bank holiday was a real proposition. Now its just an inconvenience. Devon CC should wake up and realise that putting surfer's off is a bad idea. We practically single handedly keep the Woolacombe economy going outside of school holidays.

Regarding Woolacombe, the beach break is excellent and has up 'til now been our favourite spot in the southwest. Unfortunately the council now charge for parking on the top road til 9pm and don't allow parking latenight/early morning. This severely restricts surfers who arrive early. The main parking is not open early or after 9pm. A visit to the Red Barn for a post surf pint/meal now means you have to pay for parking. Clearly a rip off - other pubs in the area have free car parks so I suggest you use them. Wonder when Devon will appreciate that visiting surfers spend quite a lot of money in Woolacombe Town and it will not encourage this if parking is discouraged by overzealous parking restrictions!

This graph shows the percentage of days that had a ridable wind swell (7 seconds period or more) or groundswell (10 seconds period or more) of over 3ft. It also shows the dominant wind direction. Not all of these days will neccessarily give great surf, and very short lived wind swells or longer period secondary swells may produce surf not recorded, but it gives a clear idea of the seasonal trend and a rough guide to the chances of scoring something ridable.
