Really like those shots. VI looks like such a scenic place to surf. Never made it over there when we were in Vancouver.

Loving your atmospheric 2nd shot there Chas ................. looks like a freezing cold windy Indo

What do you think the event brought to the place / legacy , given the hometown winner and all ?

1st shot doesn't really have a subject. Frame the surfer better if that's what you're going for. Better lense or get closer? Just seems a lot of background 'noise'. It's hard to get a good shot from that angle but you've got a goofy footer's face on a cutty so nice. I'd be wanting to see the texture of the wave face in shots like this, it's hard to make out the shoulder of the wave in this pic. It doesn't make me mind surf essentially. How much does this make me though.

Sorry if I'm being too critical, just my unexpert opinion.

The timing of your shots is v good though so you are obviously a surfer. And the other 3 shots do have good subjects. Although if I was being overly critical, which I am... Shot 2 I'd want from a tad higher view. Get more space between the waves and some more space between the wave and trees. And some more sunlight, and slightly less 50/50 proportions. 3rd shot gets great light through the spray of the turn. Maybe get closer again to the subject, but you've captured the wave well. Even though it's not a very pretty wave. Could also try getting more light on the surfers face? Excellent timing on the move though. Can't really comment on the last one other than it would have been nice to get better light on him. Bit of luck involved in that one though.

Like I say, I'm no expert so maybe the pro shooters can comment. But things I try to remember are: subject, light/framing/angle, straight horizon/good proportions, the right camera settings! timing. (I'll probably want to add more to that later :? ) I also read in a mag somewhere that capturing the light through the wave is a winner. And it is, as demonstrated by your shot of the spray and the bottle the winner in holding.

Written too much as usualy, sorry if I offended. It's just your normal MSWmember commenting on something they know very little about. Feel free to ask me about air 360s and the best board for riding Pipe. 8)

Cheers guys, i guess i'll keep at it. A bit of constructive critisism is all good (unless its about my spelling) :D I'm facing the facts that its not posible to Surf ALL DAY EVERY DAY, so think i'm gonna dedicate some time to this too.

any other hints appreciated. anyone shot with the nikon d300s, or the nikon 300m f4 and converter 1.7x ?
