Methods for waxing boards.

Postby honeymaker on Mon Jun 01, 2009 12:54 pm

Its a fundamental task but sometimes very much over looked. The aim of this thread is to get ideas from the commuinity of methods perfected over the decdes for applying wax on all types of boards. About 14 years ago, 2 guys from Narabeen were experimenting with new ways to apply wax on their boards. It was pure luck that I got to join in but the whole experince stuck with me.It involved hot water, tropical & cold wax, some organic produce and an old knee board.None of us were willing to use our own!!Its plain curiousity. So if you got any ideas, put them out there.

simple - base coat of tropical hard wax, than whatever the conditions require over here - it goes on in the correct zogs mannor of 2 layers accross the board then two length ways, then side ways, this belive it or no make perfect round humps, no circular movement involved

Thats the usual method and my own. It seems with the popularity of surfing people , from all walks, are getting into the Zen of it. Going back to basics, looking at the quality of the experince. Some way out ideas, well beyond my basic binary thought process, but it cant help but get an interest.

Is it just me or is there a slightly fetishistic side to waxing your board?

The beauty of it...

Takes a few mins for me - tropical basewax with a circular motion all over the place then top off with cold wax - the latter is just rubbed on any old way.

what i do on my short boards is... up and down motion all over the parts you wax and the left and right in the same places and then do circles, and after using a whole block of what ever wax you use, you should get good bumbs, i use sex wax if you think it would make a difference
