Only relatively recently added to the international surfing map, Oman has been surfed by the substantial ex-pat population of Dubai for some time. Dry and arid but certainly not flat the extensive coastline has many gems yet to be unearthed. Masirah holds most of the southern spots, before Al Ashkharah in the north heralds the northern cluster. Monsoon season (June to September) brings constant south-west swells up the coast with powerful accompanying winds and few clean options. For the rest of the year small and unexciting but relatively consistent swells propagate from the Roaring 40s swells heading across the Indian Ocean. Sea temperatures vary from 22-24°C 72-75°F.
