We've spent the last six months or so working on a new version of both our forecasts and the website. As usual the changes are an evolution and everything ...
News Image
We've updated the website to split out our North Sea Nations coverage and better represent the local surf scene.

MAGICSEAWEED'S iPhone App has landed! When we got our hands on an iPhone we were pretty impressed and have been working on a full-blown app ever since. Now is the time, it's been approved, and you can download it for FREE from the iPhone App Store HERE. You need to have iTunes downloaded or it will take you to the download page first. Alternatively just search for 'Magicseaweed' in the Apple App Store.

Whilst you still have access to our whole world of surf reports the app will automatically check your location and deliver you the nearest five forecasts - clever iPhone. All the detailed forecast information is available plus the usual charts for wind, swell size and wave period.

It's an iPhone!

For each forecast with an eyeball report you'll see a logo denoting this - and for all our eyeball reporters - you can now upload the daily reports after snapping a pic on your phone. (If you want to become an eyeball reporter email: general@magicseaweed.com)

You Get:

Location specific forecasts

Eyeball surf reports

Local and world charts

We're really stoked with it and we hope you guys are too...

For all you guys who were using the old web based app on your 'non' iPhones it will still be available but you don't get all the bells and whistles.

You can still access that one HERE.

We've moved things around a little to make them easier to locate. Your bookmarks are accessed from the link at the top of the 'Home' and 'Your Location' screens.

is there one available for Blackberry??? REALLY REALLY would like one!! PLEASE! :O)

Just noticed there was an app and it looks good so far. Could use some polish, but I can delete the three other "surf" apps I've been using and keep it simple with this one. Can't wait to see where this goes. Thanks!

Realy nice ,,,,,

Someone else mentioned it, but didn't emphasize it enough: Please, please, please include the tide data in the app! Otherwise I still have to fire up the website in the browser to get complete information...
noskilz58 days ago Reply
ignore me, I just needed to scroll down in my detailed view! Great work guys!
Paullinkins65 days ago Reply
Is there any plans to make a Blackberry app as well??
bob_bobski66 days ago Reply
Superb app, i can now delete the other apps that tried to do the same thing. They were just pretenders to the crown :-)

Good App. Couple of comments for future updates: 1. It would be good for the menu buttons at the bottom to work wherever you are in the App. eg if I have gone in to a forecast at the detailed 3hr level, to get back to the home level I cant hit "MSW Home" I have to go back up through detail>forecast>country>region> to get back to the Home list of all regions. One touch would be much easier than having to keep back through all my click-throughs. 2. For the forecasts where you provide wave height estimate would be good to have that included too, maybe theres not enough room though.. Thanks a lot though, much easier than all my bookmarked forecast pages currently in Safari to each MSW forecast page I use.

Any chance of an app for Samsungs ? I know they're not as hip as the iPhone however some networks don't do iPhone so the Samsung has to suffice.
ed-msw72 days ago Reply
We still have the web-based mobile application which works on most handsets, click through from the article.

Took too long to get an app. Now that it's here, I think just using the full web page in the browser is better. Need a FAVORITES BUTTON. That one is painfully obvious when designing these things. I humbly suggest: 1. Go through the App store and look at highly rated apps. 2. Study the highly rated apps and look at what people like. 3. Go back to the drawing board. 4. Design a better app for this and people will flock to it. 5. Pat yourselves on the back. 6. Go surf.
ed-msw73 days ago Reply
Hi pollo loco, like on the main site when you are logged in (so it knows who you are) you can bookmark all your favourite spots. Look for 'bookmarks' rather than 'favourites'...
boozer73 days ago Reply
bravo!
Blaise15173 days ago Reply
Bookmarks should be more visible...1) "Bookmarks" on home page should be at top. 2) "Bookmark this Spot" should be at top of page.
boozer74 days ago Reply
where's the BB app you clowns!
fedearchdale74 days ago Reply
... a favorite surf spots in the app would be even better no?? but cant complain =)

This is great. I use your site daily, and I can't believe that I didn't notice this until just now. One suggestion, can you show the actual degree number as well as the arrow? I've got a diary of sessions with the swell direction so I know what spots are good/bad by swell direction (as well as swell size and tide). This may only help me, but I'll buy you guys beers if you ever make it out to San Diego.

Looking forward to the iPhone app. It would be cool to assign an icon to the page so when you bookmark it to your iPhone desktop you get a nice icon, rather than the vanilla one you get at the moment. Could you also send an email notifying everyone of the iPhone apps release.

Could you make an APP for Windows Mobile 6 as well? THX.

Thanks for all the feedback - a full blown app is on it's way and we'll deal with your login, favourites etc in that...

Great! Works really well on the iphone. Would love to see the service as a proper downloadable app. I'd even pay for it if it included bft scale (I'm a sailor and surfer) and some of the offshore regions. But good effort thanks.

I was just wondering if I can change the username and password in the settings tab so I automatically get logged in when I visit the site on my iPhone? I didn't want to mess with it as current password is blanked out. Great site!

I'd love to see historical data. Even for just that day. Can't wait to have the actual app!

Super simple design, really like that. Maybe you could carry similar principles into an iPhone app? That would be the cherry on the top of the cake!!
Jamessurfphoto269 days ago Reply
Works on a blackberry too ...
Kholodkov V. 270 days ago Reply
Just if you guys are wondering its not an app its just a simple version of the website. But very good for getting a 7day forecast and detailed report for a day which includes the tides. Easy and simple.

Looks great msw. Really clear. Out of curiosity tried it on my nokia N96. The front page loads, but cant navigate to links. Would love to see something similar for other phones, maybe the wap site..

I've had really good luck with the oakley surf report app, which is free I think. Adding this to my bookmarks for sure though, this is a bit more detailed in some aspects! Stoked!

All working fine now, just the job. TX

Tried to make it work on a nokia 5800 but it just loads a blank page. In theory its no different from the iphone as i can see the whole website on one page normally, so i reckon it should work, although as i said at www.magicseaweed/iphone its just a blank page at the moment
Ben - MSW Admin275 days ago Reply
Thanks for that - it uses some trickery to make the web page look and work like an iPhone application so I didn't really expect it to work but without owning a truck load of phones it's hard to tell... I'll look into the work involved in making a version that'll be better for the Nokia too in the future.

Hi Ben, Nice little number on the iPhone. Here is another little thing that you might have time to get around. You know the way it is possible to have a customised Google home page, with lots of little portals, for say BBC, weather, jokes, etc? What would be really cool is to have a little plug in for your favour MSW site?......just a suggestion. Love the site, keep up the good work!
