Magicseaweed have launched a nearshore chart for SoCal, allowing users to judge the impact of swell shadowing on their home breaks.

MAGICSEAWEED'S iPhone App has landed! When we got our hands on an iPhone we were pretty impressed and have been working on a full-blown app ever since. Now is the time, it's been approved, and you can download it for FREE from the iPhone App Store HERE. You need to have iTunes downloaded or it will take you to the download page first. Alternatively just search for 'Magicseaweed' in the Apple App Store.

Whilst you still have access to our whole world of surf reports the app will automatically check your location and deliver you the nearest five forecasts - clever iPhone. All the detailed forecast information is available plus the usual charts for wind, swell size and wave period.

It's an iPhone!

For each forecast with an eyeball report you'll see a logo denoting this - and for all our eyeball reporters - you can now upload the daily reports after snapping a pic on your phone. (If you want to become an eyeball reporter email: general@magicseaweed.com)

You Get:

Location specific forecasts

Eyeball surf reports

Local and world charts

We're really stoked with it and we hope you guys are too...

For all you guys who were using the old web based app on your 'non' iPhones it will still be available but you don't get all the bells and whistles.

You can still access that one HERE.

After my 5 th time logging in, my preferences were saved. Nevermind the above comment. I really like the wave height adjustment feature and the app is much quicker than the last version. Thanks MagicSeaWed.

The app seems to be working nicely on the iPhone 4 ..... So far. However, I really wish they would let the user create a 4 digit PIN or a "stay signed in" button for login. I really do not want to type my full login every time I open this app. I will be downgrading to the previous version if this issue is not resolved.

Great app. Use it all the time for my forecasts. I also use the iSurfer app which helps with my surfing improvements and to keep a surf diary in my phone.

the windguru app is really good too

The login does not seem to work. I have the app on iPhone 4. Fresh installation. My login does work from web browser. the login is correct. but the app keeps highlighting the password in red. indicating its not working.. this is a drag. I was trying to post an update today from NH with the storm.. no dice..

Anybody having problems with the app these days? Can see the buoys, charts, etc. but can not get the swell forecast. It's working on my desktop but not on my iphone. I tried re-installing it. Didn't solve the problem. Just wondering. Awesome app! Keep up the good work!

I'm also having troubles even loading any surf reports. Just downloaded the app today, erased it and tried again to no improvement. Any tips from the developers? Thanks guys!

once I'd found where to bookmark my local spot (its at the bottom of that spots report) where do i find it bookmarked when I want to go back to it? thanks
Deacon Ives813 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
We've moved things around a little to make them easier to locate. Your bookmarks are accessed from the link at the top of the 'Home' and 'Your Location' screens.

is there one available for Blackberry??? REALLY REALLY would like one!! PLEASE! :O)
geezfools848 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Just noticed there was an app and it looks good so far. Could use some polish, but I can delete the three other "surf" apps I've been using and keep it simple with this one. Can't wait to see where this goes. Thanks!

Realy nice ,,,,,
noskilz861 days ago +2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Someone else mentioned it, but didn't emphasize it enough: Please, please, please include the tide data in the app! Otherwise I still have to fire up the website in the browser to get complete information...
noskilz861 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
ignore me, I just needed to scroll down in my detailed view! Great work guys!
Paullinkins868 days ago +3 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Is there any plans to make a Blackberry app as well??

Superb app, i can now delete the other apps that tried to do the same thing. They were just pretenders to the crown :-)

App for HTC HERO??
POB876 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Good App. Couple of comments for future updates: 1. It would be good for the menu buttons at the bottom to work wherever you are in the App. eg if I have gone in to a forecast at the detailed 3hr level, to get back to the home level I cant hit "MSW Home" I have to go back up through detail>forecast>country>region> to get back to the Home list of all regions. One touch would be much easier than having to keep back through all my click-throughs. 2. For the forecasts where you provide wave height estimate would be good to have that included too, maybe theres not enough room though.. Thanks a lot though, much easier than all my bookmarked forecast pages currently in Safari to each MSW forecast page I use.

Any chance of an app for Samsungs ? I know they're not as hip as the iPhone however some networks don't do iPhone so the Samsung has to suffice.
Ed Magicseaweed876 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
We still have the web-based mobile application which works on most handsets, click through from the article.
pollo loco877 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Took too long to get an app. Now that it's here, I think just using the full web page in the browser is better. Need a FAVORITES BUTTON. That one is painfully obvious when designing these things. I humbly suggest: 1. Go through the App store and look at highly rated apps. 2. Study the highly rated apps and look at what people like. 3. Go back to the drawing board. 4. Design a better app for this and people will flock to it. 5. Pat yourselves on the back. 6. Go surf.
Ed Magicseaweed877 days ago Unrated Rate Positive Rate Negative
Hi pollo loco, like on the main site when you are logged in (so it knows who you are) you can bookmark all your favourite spots. Look for 'bookmarks' rather than 'favourites'...
boozer876 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
bravo!
Blaise151876 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Bookmarks should be more visible...1) "Bookmarks" on home page should be at top. 2) "Bookmark this Spot" should be at top of page.
boozer877 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
where's the BB app you clowns!
fedearchdale877 days ago +2 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
... a favorite surf spots in the app would be even better no?? but cant complain =)

FANTASTIC APP, best on itunes so far _.·´¯(___.·´¯(_______
Barreled894 days ago +1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
This is great. I use your site daily, and I can't believe that I didn't notice this until just now. One suggestion, can you show the actual degree number as well as the arrow? I've got a diary of sessions with the swell direction so I know what spots are good/bad by swell direction (as well as swell size and tide). This may only help me, but I'll buy you guys beers if you ever make it out to San Diego.

Looking forward to the iPhone app. It would be cool to assign an icon to the page so when you bookmark it to your iPhone desktop you get a nice icon, rather than the vanilla one you get at the moment. Could you also send an email notifying everyone of the iPhone apps release.

Could you make an APP for Windows Mobile 6 as well? THX.

Thanks for all the feedback - a full blown app is on it's way and we'll deal with your login, favourites etc in that...
Krisfl1058 days ago -1 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Great! Works really well on the iphone. Would love to see the service as a proper downloadable app. I'd even pay for it if it included bft scale (I'm a sailor and surfer) and some of the offshore regions. But good effort thanks.

works for my g1 perfectly

I was just wondering if I can change the username and password in the settings tab so I automatically get logged in when I visit the site on my iPhone? I didn't want to mess with it as current password is blanked out. Great site!

I'd love to see historical data. Even for just that day. Can't wait to have the actual app!
iancochran1071 days ago +10 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Super simple design, really like that. Maybe you could carry similar principles into an iPhone app? That would be the cherry on the top of the cake!!
Jamessurfphoto1072 days ago -6 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Works on a blackberry too ...
Kholodkov V. 1073 days ago +88 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Just if you guys are wondering its not an app its just a simple version of the website. But very good for getting a 7day forecast and detailed report for a day which includes the tides. Easy and simple.
geezfools1075 days ago -7 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
I've had really good luck with the oakley surf report app, which is free I think. Adding this to my bookmarks for sure though, this is a bit more detailed in some aspects! Stoked!

All working fine now, just the job. TX
XFS1078 days ago -5 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Tried to make it work on a nokia 5800 but it just loads a blank page. In theory its no different from the iphone as i can see the whole website on one page normally, so i reckon it should work, although as i said at www.magicseaweed/iphone its just a blank page at the moment
Ben Freeston1078 days ago +9 Rating Rate Positive Rate Negative
Thanks for that - it uses some trickery to make the web page look and work like an iPhone application so I didn't really expect it to work but without owning a truck load of phones it's hard to tell... I'll look into the work involved in making a version that'll be better for the Nokia too in the future.

Hi Ben, Nice little number on the iPhone. Here is another little thing that you might have time to get around. You know the way it is possible to have a customised Google home page, with lots of little portals, for say BBC, weather, jokes, etc? What would be really cool is to have a little plug in for your favour MSW site?......just a suggestion. Love the site, keep up the good work!
