Adam Cornick’s Maldivian Shootout Boat Trip

MUCH like the X-Factor, life after winning a competition on MSW can go steadily downhill. Those long days of sending emails to all your mates to big-up the photos, finding the judges home addresses on social media, basking the spotlight, your nose full of the scent of the greasepaint and the roar of the crowd as you open your web browser. It all fades away like the final wisps of a hurricane in the jetstream.

Fortunately for Adam Cornick, winner of our 2012 Hurricane Leslie Shootout he had a trip to the Maldives to keep him warm through the long Nova Scotian winter; courtesy of MSW and those gents at the The Perfect Wave who flew him from one of the coldest surfing destinations on our corduroy canvas to perhaps the warmest and dreamiest.

It’s a shame it was raining when he landed…

“The Maldives, for those who don’t already know, sits in the Indian Ocean South of India. It can be a bit of mission to get to, especially from North America. My trip involved a 12 hour layover in London, then on to Sri Lanka to catch the final connecting flight to the Maldivian capitol, Male. We had to sit on the runway in Sri Lanka for over an hour to allow a fairly impressive thunder storm to pass but then the fun started.”
