**For the 14th year running, Surfrider Foundation Europe is organising the “Ocean Initiatives” a major eco-friendly event devoted to the protection of our coastline, lakes and rivers.**
~The Ocean Initiatives in 2008:~
Record numbers of participants: more than 15,000 volunteers, including 3,500 schoolchildren, gathered together over a weekend.
A global dimension: 335 sites cleaned up in 15 countries with, for the first time, the official participation of the worldwide Surfrider network.
From the stream to the beach: first edition of the operation on lakes and rivers. With 90% of ocean pollution coming from the land, it is crucial that the whole water cycle be taken into account.
