You got here when Andy?
I arrived on Friday a few days after the big swell. Days too late.
How do you keep occupied during the long off days? (We worked out there's the potential for more than two months of off days during a season)
We just hang out, train, surf, we've got DVDs for the down time... jet skis, that's it. I'm shacked up with Occy and Dusty Payne, great people.
And Roy Powers?
No he doesn't stay here, he's just here every day. Freddy P is just here too.... it's a good group.
This season, two 9s and 33rd and a 17th. You really want big Teahupoo to demonstrate what you do best?
I want any Teahupoo. If it was 5ft that'd be a dream but really if it's 3ft I can do it.
Who do you fear?
No one, it's all the same to me, just another guy with a jersey.
You seems to be a different Andy this season. A reinvention, mellower.
Yeah maybe. I've already won my world titles, the tour to me isn't everything. There's more to life than just the tour. I figured that out when I was off the tour and I'm pretty excited about it (laughs). When people come off the tour they can find if really difficult to readjust to become 'normal' again.
Like coming out of prison?
Ha ha, it's a lot better than prison. Like being a rock 'n' roller or something. I think it's the exact opposite of prison, being able to go anywhere and everywhere for months on end. Institutionalised freedom at its best.
