Located at the mouth of the Estuary of Bilbao, the overgrown pointbreak of Punta Galea is the go-to spot that you head to once the the swell gets too big for Menakoz and a host of other Basque big wave spots.
Once a year they hold the Punta Galea Challenge here, and this year it was won by 17-year-old Natxo, the event’s youngest contestant. This annual event has recently been granted qualifying event status for the Big Wave World Tour (BWWT), a European first.
