Board Porn: Channel Islands Average Joe

A first look at the Channel Islands Average Joe just arrived at the warehouse. This beefy little number promises to unlock a hyperactive wave count.

This has to be one of the most accessible all-round shortboards. Similar in concept to boards like the Lost Bottom Feeder or the JS Pier Pony, the Average Joe takes the super wide high volume board back a little further towards typical shortboard performance.

The width and thickness means absolutely maximum stability and wave count - perfect as a groveller in the smallest, weakest surf but also for the surfer transitioning from a longer board to a first shortboard. However unlike many of its competitors it has rediscovered rocker and a narrower tail. This means it'll be less quirky in better waves and will turn off the back foot a lot more like a performance shortboard.

There's always a compromise between wave count, paddle(ability), stability and performance but this board looks a lot less like a quirky addition to the normal quiver and a solid attempt at a balance of all three for the average weekend warrior.

Available in sizes ranging from: 5.3 (29.6 litres) to 6.1 and a whopping 47.6 litres.
