Dane is simply the most exciting young surfer out there in competition land. Sorry Owen, sorry Jordy, this boy makes jaws drop when it all comes together. But he's inconsistent and as such will probably not be challenging at the end of the year, yet.
He stomped all over his quarter final heat with Parko, who was no slouch posting a total of 17.47, enough to win most heats. Just not when you come up against someone capable of going out on the lash for a week and then posting a 19.20 (not that we're suggesting such things occurred this week, it's a more general observation).
He then lost out in a big way to Jordy in the semis, failing to even make it a competition with some poor wave choice.
"I felt pretty good yesterday and it felt like my equipment was finally working," Reynolds said. "Even though the conditions weren't as good today, I thought I could catch an average wave and surf it well enough to get a good score, but that didn't happen."
