Off on a tangent... Sharks, there was a fatal attack near where you were surfing back in Yallingup a couple of weeks ago. Do you worry about it in West Oz?
It's scary, it was an awful story, my friends were there and it sounded terrible. Because it's my home, at my house, I don't feel scared. If I'm in somewhere else, if I'm in South Australia or Queensland, somewhere sharky you get scared. That's been two really bad shark attacks in the same area now in the last 5 years. So yeah I don't know, it happens, it's awful, but the way it was explained to me there were seals jumping in the rocks and people were coming in and he paddled out and got mistaken for a seal. I never see them down south though, only up north at places like Gnaraloo. Good thing really because if you see them down south it's probably a white.
Some surfers hate the internet but you've got an Facebook fan page and seem to have a good relationship with fans. How do you feel about all these new technologies?
It's a bit of interaction for sure from me and my friend Simon. I do look at everything on there but I don't write it all (laughs). We're just about to launch an interconnected website, blog social media thing, check it out, tajburrow.com.
How was the Hollywood debut are you going to desert us for Hollywood if you fail to win this year?
What? Oh, yeah, Blue Crush 2 (laughs) is that what you mean? I just got asked to do it last minute at J-Bay and I spent about seven hours in a wetsuit fucking freezing all for two lines. That's how good I am! It was pissing down rain, it was so cold, windy, and they were trying to shoot this scene with the biggest set-up you've ever seen, fires, heaters, tents, people walking with umbrellas over us, it was crazy. I did have my own trailer which was pretty fun with my name on the door. They said it looked good but we'll see what happens (laughs) It'll be a smaller movie I'm sure than the first. There's no Kate Bosworth in this one for starters.
