YOUR shots of Hurricane Katia. Have a flick through and give us your top three. Winner gets a photography commission (the last photog we sent to Tahiti) and all the top three get more FCS gear than you can fit in the supplied board bag. Hurricane Katia ended up giving the Caribbean an unusually heavy dousing of hurricane swell with enough straight east in the swell to squeeze all the way through the Windward island chain lighting up just about everywhere. Florida probably didn't get it as good as Irene but heading north and out over the Atlantic Katia provided more than a week of surf. We've had 100s of pics dropping from the Caribbean all the way up to Nova Scotia and then across the Atlantic as far as Ireland, even retaining enough power to wake up the French big spots. We'll call this the golden route, close enough to deliver swell, yet far enough away to avoid the destructive intentions of Irene. In the middle of all this the Quik Pro in New York rode the odds and latched onto one of the East Coast swells of the season. Here's a selection of the pics we like thus far, we'll leave the competition open for day or so as Katia does her thing over the other side of the pond in Europe and to allow any stragglers to file their entries. To vote just let us know in the comments which is your winner. More from this photog here and the entire crop of recent hurricane shots here. © 2013 saltmonkey

Right at the tail end of the Katia swell there was still a peach or two to be found in Florida if you looked hard enough. And yes that 'surf' in the background is the reason this is a valid entry, we're sticklers for the rules at msw HQ. More here © 2013 161261
