Kelly Slater Wins 2011 US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach

US Open of Surfing - Huntington Beach, CA - Kelly Slater has defeated Yadin Nicol at the 2011 US Open of Surfing in front of a completely packed Huntington Beach Surf City USA. The 10-time world surfing champion completed a killer performance in California with the help of a three foot swell thanks to Hurricane Eugene.

In the first 15 minutes of the final, Nicol couldn't find a wave to surf. Meanwhile, Slater had already secured a combined total heat score of 16.27 points. The surfing champion wanted to reconquer the famous Californian title.

Kelly Slater's last victory at the US Open of Surfing was in 1996. The Floridian beated Shane Beschen and tasted the salted trophy of the iconic West Coast beach.

"I am frustrated for him (Yadin Nicol). The two big stes he had were close-outs. I saved aerials for these heats. I don't like getting hurt. ", said a stoked Kelly Slater.

Teenage surfing prodigy Kolohe Andino reached the semi-final and only lost to Yadin Nicol by a very narrow margin. The ASP Prime tour now heads to the Atlantic Ocean, in Portugal, for the Billabong Azores Island Pro, from September 27th to October 2nd 2011.
