MADE Lana and Wayan Gobleg schooled a pack of fiery young local surfers in the Bukit Trials for the Rip Curl Cup 2012 at Padang Padang earlier today, July 17th, 2012. In addition to the invited list of Indonesian and international barrel sharks the event held two slots open for local surfers. Made Lana and Wayan Gobleg reaffirmed their status at the top of the Uluwatu pecking order topping the scoreboard and earning wildcard berths into the main event of the 2012 Rip Curl Cup. Held at the more exposed Uluwatu rather than the contest site of Padang the swell rolled spokes of solid surf down the point providing a taster of things to come. After a slow few weeks of surf leading up to the previous weekend's opening ceremony this Wednesday and early Thursday (July 18th and 19th) sees a second peak in the forecast. Unfortunately it is forecast to hit the right notes in the middle of the night. There's chance that the event might go but we elaborate with the issues we have with the forecast here. Ultimately it's call for the contest directors and whatever happens it'll provide another dose of waves for the Bukit. © 2013 Mick Curley/Rip Curl
As forecast the swell pulsed in all day in the overhead range. Ripping steam train lefts tearing down the point at Ulus, there really should be an ASP World Tour event in Indonesia. © 2013 Mick Curley/Rip Curl
Wayan Gobleg placed second with 15.16 points giving him the second wilcard slot up Mustofa Jeksen (Bali), Laurie Towner (Australia), and a yet to be announced international wildcard. © 2013 Mick Curley/Rip Curl

Owen Wright would love the lefts here to be on tour. Yesterday he found a 20-year-old rhino chaser under the house and he might get to use it on Wednesday and Thursday. © 2013 Mick Curley/Rip Curl
