Let's Be Frank - A Surf Movie Which Isn't a Surf Movie

By on

When Peter Hamblin first told us about this movie he was working on, Let's Be Frank, in a cramped and noisy bar far from the beach – I was intrigued. At the time he only had a brief teaser shot, 40 seconds of Wes Anderson does surfing in a primary coloured world. Frank spraying a hosepipe in a suburban 1950s pastiche as the camera panned slowly past.

Fast forward a couple of years and his movie documenting the double life of Frank Solomon is just around the corner. We assume it is double life – but it could be anything? The clips we've seen might just be red herrings. It still feels fresh and interesting which is a rare thing in surfing. And the music? Well Ben Harper has penned an original score: a vibesy and personal set of tracks which complement a richly shot movie promising sharp dialogue and expansive and indulgent scenes. Exclusive insight into the music right above.
