McKean at Shipstern

by on Thursday 30th June, 2011   24666 Views

LAST month James McKean took a foam wash thumper at Tasmania’s Shipstern Bluff.

Simon Treweek caught with Jim’s dad, legendary Tassie surfer Dave Mckean, to get his reaction to the footage?

“I was stoked cause James was right next to me when I saw it (So I knew he was OK) he was still stoked cause he’d also got the biggest barrels of his life.

“It’s great footage, all the local guys down there have pushed it to this. Ten years ago footage like this was unbelievable, not so long ago riding waves like Shippies was considered impossible.”

You’ve a photo of this wipeout in the lobby of your holiday accommodation at Marion Bay. What has the reaction been like from your guests when you tell them that’s your son?

“The most common reaction is a bit of head shaking, an open mouth, wide eyes and a laugh, followed by questions about sanity in the family!”
