Rip Curl Cup to go?

The 2010 Rip Curl Cup Invitational at Padang Padang, presented by Power Balance, could be ON in the next 24 hours. For the second time in the waiting period, contest directors have switched the official event status from red to yellow, or 'high alert'.

A powerful Indian Ocean swell began kicking waves in Bali today (today). The westerly direction of this swell is looking ideal for the fickle reef at Padang Padang. Consistent 4-to-5 foot sets were already filling into Padang Friday afternoon, and several of this year's competitors were out getting a warm-up surf in. The swell is expected to build all day Friday and through the night, with the peak hitting sometime Saturday afternoon. If it's going to 'go' in the next week or two then this is the swell.

Contest directors are monitoring conditions at Padang closely and the 32 contestants for this year's Rip Curl Cup have all been put on standby for a possible Saturday morning start at 7 am HERE.

On the day of the contest, fans will be treated to "heats on demand" which can be viewed on the website minutes after they go down. Also check the website for in-depth interviews with all the invited surfers and daily video features on all the hottest surfing, parties and happenings in Bali during the waiting period.
