MAVERICKS tragically claimed the life of Hawaiian big wave surfer Sion Milosky at about 6.30pm on March 16th.
Sion credited with one of the biggest paddle waves ever ridden at Phantoms was reportedly absolutely charging during the fateful Mavericks session. Fellow surfer Ryan Seelbach reported, "On this particular wave, he was right in the heart of the bowl. He made the drop, got to the bottom, did a bottom turn and the thing just mowed him over. There was no making it to the shoulder on that."
His board was reportedly seen tombstoning but PWC assistance couldn't make it over through the set and by the time assistance could make it over he was missing. Once Sion had been located he was rushed to the beach where CPR was administered but unfortunately it was too late. Chris Killen tells the complete story here.
He leaves behind two children, a wife and space that will remain forever his. Rest in peace Sion Milosky.
