DAY one and the wind, weather and rain couldn't stop the Roxy Pro Gold Coast getting the 2012 ASP Women's World Championship Tour kicking-off at Snapper Rocks. Stop 1 of 7 on the elite ASP Women's World Championship Tour, the Roxy Pro Gold Coast allows the girls to put their full bag of tricks on display in front of the boys. Sadly it means they get second pick of the conditions which have been pretty average. Stephanie Gilmore, 24, the four-times World Champion came exploding out of the gates in her opening heat of 2012. The hometown favourite unleashed a barrage of powerful hacks that saw her earn a massive 9 out of a possible 10. "I feel strong and am so excited to be back feeling that strength and confidence again," Gilmore said. "Every heat this morning has been really strong, really consistent and it's been like anyone can win and that's exciting to watch. Kelly (Slater) and Joel (Parkinson) were really complimentary of women's surfing at the ASP Awards the other night and that means a lot to us because we're working hard to be like those guys and we're learning a lot from them." © 2013 McKinnon Media Productions
Day two/elimination round one saw New Zealand's Sarah Mason, 16, maintain her giant killing reputation knocking out World No.6 Coco Ho. The diminutive Kiwi stunned the surfing world two years ago when she eliminated then World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (Aus) from the New Zealand Surf Festival. Mason has been living on the Gold Coast for the past few years and put her local knowledge to good use against Ho. World No.10 Laura Enever made up for a disappointing start in Rd 1 with a solid victory to advance. Lakey Peterson, 17, and tour rookie defeated Pauline Ado with one of the best looking waves of the day. Rounding out the action Silvana Lima posted the highest heat total of the day to send trials winner Philippa Anderson home for a spot more practise. © 2013 McKinnon Media Productions
Day three: Laura Enever posted a big win in her non-elimination Rd 3 clash against Paige Hareb and World Champion Carissa Moore. Enever will now advance directly into the quarterfinals whilst Hareb and Moore have to battle it out in Rd 4. Stephanie Gilmore, the four times World Champion also advanced to the quarters of the Roxy Pro today after posting two solid score in the 8-point-range. "That Rd 3 when no-one loses is pretty relaxed, but skipping Rd 4 is also on everyone's minds," Gilmore said. "It's hard out there performance wise because there's not a lot of waves with sections on offer. I didn't watch too many heats before mine, but saw Laura (Enever) get a couple of good ones. She looks like she's got something to prove, she's so radical with her hair flicks and tail slides, it definitely fired me up to go out and put on a show too." Malia Manuel and Tyler Wright (AUS) took out the other two heats of Rd 3 by posting some excellent scores to advance directly into the quarters. © 2013 McKinnon Media Productions
