Snapper Back On Top

FINALLY the sand and swell aligned at the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast, setting up the prospect of a grandstand finish.

Upset of the day was either Mick Fanning narrowly losing out to Dusty Payne, which is perhaps slightly disingenuous to Dusty who freaking rips. It's just that you don't expect Mick to lose at home in the third round. Or Owen Wright falling to Alejo Muniz who claimed to still be dreaming.

Taj Burrow was pushed hard by Julien Wilson (15.27 to 13.94) but other than that it was as expected with Kelly Slater, Parko, Ace Buchan and Jordy Smith all strolling through their heats. Style contrasts came via Matty Wilkinson almost landing a ridiculously large Rodeo whilst Parko contorted himself into tiny little tubes.

One more day is all that's required for the men as up next is round 4, the nobody loses but someone wins heat. Expect a few fireworks from the likes of Wilko, the laid-back goofy ripper with the do or die style as he attempts to unseat Kelly Slater.
