Double success for Joe Way Team Riders at this year's Greenaway Pro
The Joe Way Appeal team rider, Tom Butler and charity Ambassador Ben Skinner were both winners at The Greenaway Pro Surf event in St. Ives.
The event took place on Porthmeor Beach in St. Ives from 8th-21st August, to commemorate the life of Tom Greenaway- a lifeguard and bodyboarder from St. Ives whose untimely passing had a profound effect on the local surf and social scene.
The event hosts the UK's top surfers and bodyboarders who came together to compete and celebrate over a weekend of surfing and music. All proceeds go to the charities that were closest to Tom's heart.
Attracted to this local event, was one of the Ambassadors for the Joe Way Appeal, Ben Skinner (aka Skindog).Ben took first place in the Longboard championship competition. Skindog will be supporting the Joe Way Paddle for Life Event on the 23rd September on Newquay Harbour
In addition to Ben's success at the Greenaway Pro, Team Rider Tom Butler also finished in first place in the Men's Open Final. Following his success Tom said; "The whole event was carried out with professionalism and with a great competitor's area that was set up on the beach. Throughout the competition I felt confident and was surfing fast and solid from my very 1st heat posting the highest total in round 1. My surfboard was working really well in the small waves on offer. I surfed to my potential and I went into every heat being totally confident"
Commenting on the actually event itself Tom thanked the Greenaway family for the hard work and dedication that went into the organisation this event. Tom continues; "Personally I did not know Tom, but I got the feeling from the whole weekend that he was a solid member of the community and a great character. The turnout in the evening for the party was amazing. There was a great feeling in the guild hall where the presentations took place and most of St. Ives was there to remember their friend and to have a few drinks to celebrate his life".
Tom will be competing in this year's Paddle for Life event and looks forward to raising more money for the charity.
