How did you get here?
If you mean by here as the place in surfing that I currently occupy, founder and Tour director of the Big Wave World Tour, then the answer is easy: a vision, determination, hard work and passion.
I have surfed since 12 years of age, started organizing and judging contests at age 15 for my surf club and then started shaping boards at age 17. I really haven't done anything else except bartend when I was in my 20s and run a foam business, Walker Foam, in my 50s.
"It took 12 years..."
After 16 years on the board of directors and finally President of the ASP the headquarters moved to Australia and I began to put my energy into creating a sport involving my passion for riding big waves.
It took 12 years to convince the surfing world that my format and judging criteria were state of the art and this year we crowned the first ever Big Wave World Champion, Carlos Burle.
