thanks shorey for the expert advice, but which bait fish is best to hook one of these beasts ? in the same way you catch a baboon with an orange in a pot, maybe you could use a tuna sandwich in a plastic bag. an before all the touchie feelie namby pambies get up in arms, im talking a dolphin friendly tuna sandwich.
mantis Jul 19, 2009 Rating: -1
well, it all depends on what you are fishing for. Mackeral are used to catch all sorts of fish including big game fish. Scombridae family
Shorey Jul 17, 2009 Rating: 0
Tuna isnt a bait fish. You dont fish for dolphins unless you are a sick bastard.... oh wait a minute...
berko Jul 8, 2009 Rating: -2
dolphins are awesome, just like rainbows and unicorns and ponies. I HATE DOLPHINS, I'M GOING TO ROPE ONE AND HAVE IT TOW ME INTO 6 FOOT WAVES IF IT LIKES IT OR NOT!!!!
she with me and i m a kook Jul 15, 2009 Rating: 1
Hey berko.. do you mean 6ft as in head high, or 6 hawaiian foot? Cos 6ft in Hawaii apparently means a 30ft face. Would a dolphin be able to tow that fast? Who knows...
Shorey Jul 8, 2009 Rating: 0
Wots wong Berkie? Dont wowwy puberty will pass. The zits will clear and your dick will grow. ps Dolphins hate you too.

Meunchkkleeerrr III Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 1
Yeah it doesnt really bear thinking about does it? especially when some ususpecting young pups heads out on his new NSP and gets humped to death and back bby Dave the randy dolphin. I actually have a cut out fot he article on my office wall, the chaps involved look like a right pair of muenchklerrs! Classic though in my opinion.
Coelacanth Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 0
Hey Muenchklerr...Being buggered by a dolphin is not real high on my 'wants and wishes' list. But that's just me. It is a great news article though. Thanks for the reference. Wonder what their community service (sentence) duties were?

Top 3 things most likely to happen in Byron ... Stuck in traffic , dropped in on by local , chased in by sharks. Terrible place really. I've heard the Gold Coast rocks !

TOP 3 THINGS TO DO IN BYRON: smoke weed, surf, and occasionally work on a nut farm(or pan handle)

Typical dolphins, always dropping in. Where's a shark when you need one.
gpbb Jul 9, 2009 Rating: 2
glad you cleared that one up, was starting to worry about a whole different aspect of shark behavior!

Dammit... I mean "War of 1812"...now I suppose I'll be called a pedantic bastard!
Coelacanth Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 0
Hey VP... My misspelling of the Flumps (not Frumps!) wasn't intentional and I hope it didn't cause you any emotional pain...attached as you were to those childhood memories. I'm blaming it on recent correspondence with my new hero Muenchklerr, who I now intend to emulate. By letting my spelling go to hell!!
Coelacanth Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 2
I watched every episode of "Flipper", too! And know what you mean about believing it. I had a rude awakening last October though, when I was attacked by a shark (for real). Where was Flipper when I needed him? Your having watched the Frumps as a nipper (and liking the theme song) answers so many questions I've had about you. If you could find old episodes(on YouTube)of "Lincoln Bale(or Vale) Of The Everglades", which was on during the same years as "Flipper", I'd be forever grateful. Now there was a theme song!!! I'll even provide you with all the words (from memory!!!) to Johnny Horton's "Battle Of New Orleans" song, which was very popular here in that time frame. Sqirl would love it!! Enough time has passed that we can put that old "Battle of 1812" behind us.

Well said Mel. In episode 21 “a dolphin in time†in the 3rd season of Flipper. Our trusty hero Flipper attacks a shark that is getting too close to one of his human friends. Good old Flipper, he was like Lassie but with fins (crap theme tune though). I used to watch this show as a nipper and I generally believe everything I see on kids TV, so Mel has to be right or my whole belief system will be called into question. If I am wrong about this does this mean The Flumps weren’t real either??? THE FLUMPS ….Now that was a kids show with an insanely good theme tune. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1mMQtk3IUE Sorry if you can’t get you-tube, you are missing out on some serious gold, someone please make a profile pic with The Flumps characters, you will get my unending respect (Kilgore/ Multiple Profile Disorder …here is your next alter ego and your chance for reintroduction back into society)
Shorey Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 0
Slight correction matey, sharks hunt for game fish mostly and yes dolphins for bait fish. There are many documented tales of dolphins "protecting" humans from lurking sharks but ramming them.
Get Joggly Jul 7, 2009 Rating: 1
Dolphins often hunt for the same food as sharks, and the surfers' tale of dolphins and sharks not mixing was a myth. Both dolphins and sharks hunt for baitfish. If you see a pod of dolphins offshore then there's a good chance the same thing that's attracted them there has also got sharks there as well.

Maybe the military could teach them to attach Limpet Mines onto Goatboaters!
Coelacanth Jul 3, 2009 Rating: -1
Wait a minute...Doesn't Sqirl have to use a boat to get to his home break? There could be a terrible mistake...or even a MSW conspiracy... and we might lose him. Now I'm against it.
Coelacanth Jul 3, 2009 Rating: 2
Are goatboats those vessels associated with 'Surf Resorts' that deliver hoards of aging/old surfers (ie: goats)with money to remote, pristine, previously uncrowded breaks all over the world? If so, then I'm for it. I'm old, but I don't travel

This place was one of my mose enjoyable surfs when i was there. Cause like in the picture, there where plenty of those fellahs in the line up.

Shorey Jul 1, 2009 Rating: 0
That is either a big size wave or tiny dolphins. either way awesome picture man, really beautiful, such clean water.
the vanity project Jul 1, 2009 Rating: 3
That is a radical looking board design. ‘Fish’ tail, Twin-fin up front and an extra fin on top for advanced manoeuvres. Serious thickness for those smaller days but aggressive angles for some nice sharp turns. Controversially they have added an inverted rocker at the rear and bottle-nose up front. Those Ozzy shapers are way ahead of the pack (or Pod). Wax looks a bit old and grubby though.
the vanity project Jul 1, 2009 Rating: 0
Is this the new Thomas Meyerhoffer board??? Those things look nuts. Anybody out there had a go on one of them yet???
Coelacanth Jul 2, 2009 Rating: 2
I'll bet one of those dolphins can think of a better pun than that!
howertings Jul 1, 2009 Rating: 2
It's only us humans that hassle for waves. Dolphins are far more advanced than that.
