definitely some good waves. but if go to Irishland it will be to drink guinness on a rainy night in a Irish pub and soak up the atmosphere. I don't even own a wetsuit in fact I prefer to surf naked. And if I go to France it will be to get me a chick with really hairy armpits. From what I understand, thats how they roll. but those are some sweet rights for you up there that can handle that water temp.

NIB Aug 22, 2009 Rating: 0

I love rights, those lovely Irish spitting barrels and those long dark rights in the bar after. beats the hell out of the sunshine, spitting beachies and those french beauties with there hooters out. who wants to go france......wife says i cant!!!! :S

Dicer Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

yeah! lets all stay at our home breaks and not progress at all....don't want to go to indo anyway or lanza or moroc or hawaii...

Nah there are good waves in Ireland , but its a case of being in the right place at the right time and of course unemployment helps massively !

scr's avatar

scr Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

Inside section is the best place to be !!!!

Dicer's avatar

Dicer Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

and MAHOOSIF jugs to stare at on the inside section ;)

scr's avatar

scr Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

i'm just saying you get better value in France , no wind in the morning , sunny days , and cheap as chips. Camping by the beach you can't beat it !!!

Kiwi John's avatar

Kiwi John Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

Exactly Dicer, why would I want to go to any of those places when i've got the Lazy River Rapids at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

scr's avatar

scr Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 0

Don't bother coming to Ireland folks, its freezing , wet , too windy overpriced and very inconsistent. Go to SW France , lovely warm beachbreaks, top notch cheap camping facilities and hot chicks on the beach. Although the guinness down there is not great !!!

Ha Ha – I love MSW! It’ll probably get me sacked due to my low productivity as I’m mind surfing as VP puts it and reading all your testosterone induced comments – but feck it – if I’m sacked, myself and harveywallbanger are off to OZ to be eating by a great white!

Dont name these places EDMATE, theres no need to mention names, if you know about spots like these then keep them under your hat and surf them alone or with your mates, at size this wave will punish those who have just come over on the ferry, or have come on an 'irish surf odyssey'for 2 weeks, stay quiet and respect those who live here and have put in the time. And no its not boaties, wherever that is..

edmate's avatar

edmate Aug 26, 2009 Rating: 0

Sorry man, that was just our nickname for it! But I'd say that putting the photo on MSW and putting it in the area is worse than calling it by a pet name that only 4 of us call it....We called it boaties cos of the step it has is way more tame than shippies.... boats are smaller than ships... so I didnt think it would really give it away!

Portpipe's avatar

Portpipe Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 0

i agree with most of what you say boom but i doubt names of spots means that much to anyone who ventures to ireland for a bit of surfing.

sam_fujiyama's avatar

sam_fujiyama Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 0

Well said, I cant think of a single good reason to put placenames to pictures of good setups. It doesnt change anything about the quality of the picture and if you recognise the place you already know where it is. This is the way that spots get ruined.

lame mate, the sea is for everyone to enjoy - let people search and if they get worked then they'l know not to hit that spot again.

Wow that is truly refreshing to see someone flagging themselves up for a bad comment. Fair play to you for that mate, I was just minutes away from jumping to Shorey’s defence (not that he needs anyone to help him bust someone’s nads). By the way, uploading photos aint just a kooks pastime fella, it is all about sharing the stoke with our international surf brothers and sisters, giving people a free mind surf while at work and maybe opening our eyes to travel to spots we thought weren’t so appetising. You don’t need to log in to view photos or check the forecasts so why else do you have a profile if you don’t want to be a part of that community and collaborate and share? Either way, I raise my glass to you for recognising you read his comment wrong, it’s all too easy just to shrug your shoulders and tell some one they are a **** on the forums…….. P.S. Shorey, you are a ****! ;-)

localFish Aug 20, 2009 Rating: -3

Shorey, to be honest with i really dont think you are one to judge. Everytime I go onto msw whos making comments??you!!Can you surf, do u surf?probably not!!u probably weigh a shit load to!! Anyway about that comment you left, KOOKS?are u serious?!open ur eyes dick, powers of three?waveriders?John Mac, Cian Killcullan, and many more!!you sound like a retard man!!TH he only reason why you think there are kooks surfing Ireland is simply because only kooks upload there pics on msw!!why dont you come to ireland you fukn knob and see for urself!!

I’m getting too old to be into the all that noisy pishposh of Limp Bizkit. The only limp biscuits I come into contact with are when I dunk them for too long in a cup of tea. Bourbons and Ginger Nuts can hold their own for about 3-5 seconds in hot tea but Rich Tea and Digestives lose structural integrity after just a couple of dunks. To witness true tea dunking greatness it has to be the iconic Jammie Dodger, it’s a modern design classic. They rule the roost in the dunking stakes due to an innovative double lined shortcake outer wall with an adhesive jammy centre for strength. When it comes to a cup of tea and a biscuit when I sit down to listen to Cradle of Filth, I accept no substitutes.

Shorey Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 8

Um no I cant surf, I am a bodyboarder. My comment was not a dig or intended negatively or judging in any way. It is those eery gloomy conditions that makes Ireland so unique. It has a daunting, intense kind of feel, a place like no other. I wasnt lying was I? The weather is mostly overcast, doesnt mean it is a shit place, just different, unique. In case you missed it I said your waves COOK, KOOK. From what i have seen ireland has some of the best waves in the world. i comment on here because I enjoy interacting from fellow wave riders from around the world. In the words of Limp Biscuit, "Check yourself before you wreck yourself" and "kiss my starfish, my chocolate starfish".

dogroberts Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 2

Wow, someone got out of bed on the wrong side. Shorey's comment appears positive to me, and pretty observant, lets face it, being exposed to the atlantic does bring the swell, but also the weather. I read it as, cold, wet, but the payoff is empty peaks that are firing. Get positive.

edmate's avatar

edmate Aug 20, 2009 Rating: -1

Boaties, such a rad wave. Shame you cant see its step on this wave! does a very tame impression of shippies as it goes to the inside!

Shorey's avatar

Shorey Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 0

from what I have seen from Ireland this shot pretty much sums up the scene. A little gloomy, a little overcast, cold, uncrowded and COOKING.

Ratbag's avatar

Ratbag Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 0

OK, I'm officially impressed. Yous Irish fellas are shooting yaselves in the foot posting all these great picks of perfect surf with no one surfing them. Yas are setting yaselves up for an influx of international surfers coming to raid your breaks.

nelch's avatar

nelch Aug 21, 2009 Rating: 1

so its all some elaborate plan to attract the surfers of the world and bump them off, leaving breaks around the world empty for you to invade?

.'s avatar

. Aug 20, 2009 Rating: 0

Yes but we Irish are immune to the cold water – any influx of international surfers will freeze – that’s what we’re banking on.

jrat's avatar
