Almost the entire eastern seaboard of Australia was enveloped by a massive dust storm today. The frontal system responsible carried incalculable amounts of red soil from the South Australian desert and mixed it with valuable farmland topsoil dried from the drought. The strong winds then turned it into a moving wall of dust four hundred kilometres wide and thousands of kilometres long. Nowhere escaped, including us here in Byron Bay. Photo taken middle of the day. Looking north along Tallows lighthouse less than 1km away SHOULD be visible !
