KIMBALINOS's avatar

KIMBALINOS Oct 18, 2009 Rating: 0

fair play to that! I cant really argue as it is usually me on a shorty trying to up his wave count!! hopefully though with a bit mmore experience I wont be such a cock lol

40's avatar

40 Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 4

yeah, i'm all over the new shit and how some crew thinks outside of box. sure beats the usual longboard cock who rides mal only to rack up his wavecount in someone elses expence.

40's avatar

there's plenty published barrel shots where surfer didn't make it, but most of the times commitment shows on a photo. airs, i'm not so sure about them if it makes a difference or not if you make it or not. it doesn't take a pro to learn how to boost, landing's by far the hardest thing, and it's almost too easy to write someone off when trying to pull off some alley oops with longboard. props for the surfer surfing the wave and not the board, it's cool to see something different and you're not landing them if you don't try them.

40's avatar

40 Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 2

shoots people get mad here over a kick out shot. i just think that in a good air photo there is a grab, if surfer attempts to grab. this way we don't know even what really happened. might sound picky, but go listen some skaters and how they want to see the catch. frame wise, i'd loved to see more of the bottom of that wave and surfer against the cliff, placed more on a top half of the frame. lower angle would have done it, but then again maybe that wasn't doable. but as far as airs go, for me that's just another huck amongst them all and that has nothing to do with photographers skills.

Surfed with and competed against Nathan quite a bit. He rips end of. He ain't a surfer that will take it steady and play safe turns. Just tries to blow up all the time. Seen him land some sick manouvers. But as he says it can be his down fall in comps as he pushes it too hard at times. Not many people around boosting this high on a mal though.

noserider's avatar

noserider Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 1

Nathan will compete again - at his own choosing though. More likely to be in surf that is proper surf non of the crap small surf we often get for competitions.

Surfetishist's avatar

Surfetishist Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 2

Good comments Greg!!! Haven't seen a lot of Nathan surfing in comps but did get to see his semi final with Ben Skinner and Ben Haworth at the Night surf and gotta say his and Skindog's performances were worthy of a final!!! Can totally see what you are saying though as the floaters and shit he was doing were make or break stuff, he definitely wasn't looking for racking up points with lots of small turns it was one or two big turns a wave, whereas Skindog was milking every 0.5 out of every wave he had!! Great to watch when it comes together, would be nice to see him at another comp, I've heard he is pretty over them though - shame!!

Clive Symm Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 2

Just for the record this is a sandy bottom beachy, no rocks on the inside, so no reason to kick out. Mr Carter still has his feet on the board and is going for a rail grab. Maybe he landed it maybe he didn't, but he sure as hell went for it. Not for the first time either, respect where respect is due please...

noserider's avatar

noserider Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 1

As Clive states - Nathan always goes for it. He is probably the best Longboarder in the country. Nobody comes close to his aerial skills.

Jesus man. Too many haters. For sure he is airing and it looks like a makeable landing. I am willing to bet the negative comments are from short boarders. Most long boarders I know would love to be able to do that. Respect to the boarder and also to the snapper. Great pic.

Cool pic I think alot of surfers would be pleasantly surprised if they actually had a go on a light full progressive longboard, they are alot of fun (especially if your a slightly ageing shortboarder) and nothing like logging it in tiny waves on an old traditional non-turning noserider.

it's a kickout, who cares about those? if someone's screaming next for me to shut up, then please go on and post a clip where that dude actually tries to land that somewhere else than on a back of a wave. big props if he pulls it off and lands to fakie, but i doubt about that. what's next, longboard tow at's?

Mumble The Irrelevant's avatar

Mumble The Irrelevant Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 1

POP! Don't want to burst your bubble mate but I've been a competing surfer most of my life and that is definately just kickout. To imply it's anything else shows a lack of knowledge and an over-willing imagination. Look at the wave - look where he's come from - now workout where he's going - which way is the wave going - got it yet? I see it most days I surf in one form or another. Longboarders do it, shortboarders do it even muppets on the sponge do it.....lets do it... lets just kick out! Good longboarders can pop some air and frequently do but that ain't one!

Surfetishist's avatar

Surfetishist Oct 15, 2009 Rating: 0

Mate there is a big difference between actually landing it and trying to land it!!!! are you telling me that he has no intention of trying to make the move????? Surely everytime you go for a move you are hoping to land it?????

Tell you what 10 euros to the first person who posts a sicker longboard (at least 9 foot) photo!!!!

Mumble The Irrelevant's avatar

Mumble The Irrelevant Oct 16, 2009 Rating: 1

Just checked out your link. Different photo, different move. Possibly even a different day. At least you should be able to see the difference between an attempt at popping air and a kicking out the back. (It's all in the direction he's heading in comparison to that of the wave, just incase you still can't work it out).

Appreciate the effort in the shot mate, look at the colours, composition etc and the commitment by this dude, that looks like full ankle snapping if it goes wrong!
