I think that half thru this thread we have to start reading upwards. But Shred (or whatever your name is sorz) you do have a point about the Hawaiians, but Dicers comment rings very very true as well. But basically let's just get out there and enjoy waves no matter if we are good or are not :)

Tell me, why don't I see any of these in "Englands first big wave comp" I mean, that "big wave comp" stuff, jeez, in a few years I'd be surfing that stuff routinely. (I'm still a kook, lol.) But this, this is a real big wave!

GOOOOOOO!!!! sick wave! dont comment on here much, but have noticed a bit of a trend of pun-offs and general slagging.....suprised to see no comments from the yanks yet about how the waves in britain are weak and none of us can surf..... lets keep it nice and clean eh lads?! (like the photo!) 'spread the love' as they say

Don't bother, the water rarely gets above 65f, there are shitty summer lulls, the winter is freezing, it's soooo crowded all year, the line ups are increasingly jammed with log riders or wankers with paddle boards, the prevailing wind [where I live] is on shore and it's generally crap 95% of the time. We, the people, are rude, obnoxious and either insular or aggressive. Everything is expensive, the roads are crap and jammed with fuckwitt emmets and weekend warriors with their spanking new VW Transporters, top of the range rubber, and boards freshly bought from this very site. Apart from that it's great! The top Yank surfers are better than all British Surfers ever, fact! However occasionally you can score one of those days when you're in with your mates, alone with a perfect swell which would have been glassy if it weren't for the gentle off shore breath of wind holding open those gaping barrels. On the right day, seek and ye shall find.

Yeah, I'll give you that. One of these days I wanna come surf over there and find out for myself.

I don't know where this comment will end up but here goes...........Stylin Mike fair play, you came back with a good arguement. Not all top surfers are Pro's who compete though =)

Stylin.. your comments do have a lot of truth. Its hard to compete against people who grew up in Hawaii. World class waves in warm water on your doorstep makes for exceptional surfers

That's a bit of a stretch since he grew up in South Africa, but I'll give it to you. Still not on the level of Kelly Slater or Andy Irons, though, so my point remains valid.

Didn't mean to offend you there, Dicer. The limey comment was just in response to being referred to as a yank. And I don't feel I'm making any generalizations, either. I know there are a lot of great surfers in England, and a lot of piss-poor surfers here in the U.S. I'm just saying that our very top surfers are on another level. Correct me if I'm wrong (and I certainly could be), but I don't know of any Englishman that has ever won the ASP world championship, or the Eddie, or even any single WCT event.

Just got to say wet willy, for someone that is trying to ''spread the love'' between Americans and Brits, you're doing one sh*t job there mate. It seems to me that you're trying to start the hate instead of stopping it. In all fairness to the Americans that have posted comments about recent big wave shots such as Levy, the vast majority have been saying how great they were and didn't necessarily realised how good it can be over here, as well as some respect for Brit wavecatchers. Oh yeah there are girls on this site too!

Dicer's avatar

Dicer Feb 17, 2010 Rating: -2

again Stylin Mike I have to disagree with your bold sweeping statement. For a start us "limeys" have several Top surfers that all shreeeeeed and we have a fair few that are average and millions of intermediate/novice riders just like you "yanks". Britain is an island and for most surfers getting to the beach is no problem, America is HUGE and surfers may have to travel 9+ hours to get a chance of a ripple so work on that basis. It's bold generalisations like your inital post that give you guys a bad name.

stylin mike's avatar

stylin mike Feb 16, 2010 Rating: 1

I've never said you limeys can't surf. I mean, our best are certainly better than your best, but it seems like the average surfer on your side is every bit as good as the average surfer here.
