I read an interview last year with one of Irelands up and coming groms, from this general area. Little ballsack wasn't old enough to drive to the beach and he's complaining about overcrowding, when's the penny going to drop that everything he thinks he's so shit hot at was being done 30 years before he was born and, yes, he's just one of the crowd? Anyone who moans about overcrowding in surf magazines/videos which, by their nature, promote surf culture, deserve to go for the big hold down! Rant finished, I'm done, over and out....

Mate this is a sick shot - nothin better than sick waves just u and ur mates. Gotta be honest though.... if there were no shots of this place it would hardly be packed at all. not pointing the finger at anyone, just stating a fact

rogg's avatar

the first to surf aileens was the rusty long/mac/dave blount/robin kent day. aussie spongers/micky smith tried to get there a year before, but didn't make it to the break before it got dark. robin kent took off on the first wave - was too deep and tried to go left. 45 minute paddle back to get to the peak. rusty long caught and completed the first wave of the day. that's fact. if you want unsubstantiated rumour: a surfing mate of mine was in Gusssies in Doolin and was chatting to a visiting american surfer who was telling him he'd clambered down the cliffs, paddled out to a big wave and snagged a few...... ten years ago. like i say fully unsubstantiated, but interesting.

Ya nuke seen ur comment below bout the aussie boggers, think thats spot on... my bad..

jimbob's avatar

jimbob Mar 27, 2010 Rating: 0

Boggers have been surfing aileens for yrs before any1 else. Also rileys is 5mins from my house so we knew about it for yrs and have seen people there a long time ago, were just not good enough for it yet sadly... and its a left..

Nuke the whales!'s avatar

Nuke the whales! Mar 25, 2010 Rating: -2

eh thats not actually true. mickey found both aileens and rileys, no one else had surfed either wave before he found them. anyways the boys who have been surfing here the longest arent effected by crowds cuz other people who come here either cant surf it, or are travelling surfers.

jimbob's avatar

jimbob Mar 24, 2010 Rating: 1

Not likely, this place was know long before the "exposure" same as aileens. Then they exposed it to the world....

Reillser, your so right, us guys had our spot "wedged"!!! like this a few years back after films and photos, not by us may I add!! funny thing is its pretty much the same group responsable!!! hmmmm, funny that!!. I'm not one of these die hard locals because at the end of the day without sounding like to much of a jack johnson loving soap dodger, its a free ocean man!!! on the other hand it just sucks for us boys who surfed pumping waves for years only to have it busted open by some young glory hunter!!!, these guys do rip though, i've been surfing 15 years and still shit!! ha. Oh ye, nice shot, camped about a mile away from here a few years back with a mate looking for waves!!! didn't find it did we!!! huge doooooh.

GrumpyOlminge's avatar

GrumpyOlminge Mar 28, 2010 Rating: 1

Naaaaa mate, read the comments properly, not saying the shot is aileens, the shot is Rileys every man and his dog knows that these days, we were just talking about aileens and they did paddle from doolin.... ah, sorry sound a bit so nah nah nah nah nah about it don't i!!! but ye, thats what happened.

doh's avatar

doh Mar 26, 2010 Rating: 0

i doubt they paddled here from doolin..as its not ailleens

GrumpyOlminge's avatar

GrumpyOlminge Mar 26, 2010 Rating: -2

hahaha, ye your absolutely right, Brendon Newton and co i think i remember the other guys saying about it, but if i remember right they pretty much had to turn around when they got there because it was getting dark!!! absolute nutters, thats a pretty much epic paddle from doolin!!!

Nuke the whales!'s avatar

Nuke the whales! Mar 25, 2010 Rating: -1

actually first lads to surf it were a bunch of aussie boogers about a year or so before that sesh, they paddled out from doolin pretty much cuz they didnt see the goats trail!

Hippies!!!! or sea hippies in this case!!!. Cheers though, i don't often comment so got it all off my chest! haha. Us guys were also checking what is now called aileens two days before it was first surfing by rusty long, Danyy Wall, and co it was just huge and on shore but i distinctly remember saying to my mate " i wonder what it gets like when its clean!!" two days later we found out!! no ski's in sight that day but wasn't as crazy as it gets. Anyway ye, Ireland, nice.

how you get the offshore at d base of d 700foots cliffs pleeze hmm???......~~~.......~~~......

ahinalu's avatar

ahinalu Mar 24, 2010 Rating: 0

When there's no wind and the wave is moving forward at 20mph as it breaks it will have a relative wind speed going in the opposite direction

readysteadybasslineheavy's avatar

readysteadybasslineheavy Mar 24, 2010 Rating: -1

well i might be wrong as i haven't been here, but if you look really carefully, it appears that those cliffs aren't infact in a position where they'd block the wind. they do infact appear to be to the left of the wave. alternatively, PHOTOSHOP

yeah but they didn't even attempt to cover it either. i don't think these guys are having a go at the lads who exposed it, theyre just saying that if u make somewhere well known, expect people to find it - don't complain that its packed....

i don't see anything childish in poking at a bit of hypocrasy. cant pimp your wave and have it uncrowded too. absolutely stunning pic, btw.

archibald gruntfuttock's avatar

archibald gruntfuttock Mar 24, 2010 Rating: -4

for 'expose' replace with 'discover' they also support websites like this so that you have a public forum for your childish and irrelevant views.

donkeydick's avatar

Agreed, they expose spots to fund there surfing lifestyle. Its not just them its the whole surf media industry.
