I know its a bit old but dam EastWater your a complete kook...... Its a lot harder to learn to kayak well than ride a stick yea they can catch more waves but just exsplain to them they cant just drop in on people. I bet you those guys your dribbleing of only actualy get in the surf once mabe twice a year. Try to show alittle restraint on the water as some of those guys probly charge a lot harder than you ever have.

A few of these comments remind me of the other day I was hiking on my favorite trail when this "pedal pusher" on a mountain bike totally drops in on me! "Hey buddy" I yell. "If you didn't ride so fast, you wouldn't need a helmet!" While I stood there collecting my thoughts, a power hiker goes by me. You know the kind, two ski poles, a backpack AND a fanny pack. What?, is her ass so big it needs it's own supplies? So this "paper poker" has the nerve to say good morning as she went by! Well this blew any chance I had to see any wildlife so I headed back to my car. Just as well too because who is jogging right for me but a sweatty guy covered in tatoos. "What's up" he says going by me. "F**k you INK STINKER".I mutter. When will these kooks learn to stay off OUR dirt?

It don't matter to me if it was a SUP, a kyaker, a sponger, a standup, or some goofball in an innertube, if they were to drop in on me I'd have to say something like, "hey, you know that's bad manners to drop in like that?" If it happened again I might say, "HEY ASSHOLE, do you that's bad manners?" hopefully they get the message, If not, well.....

EastCoast's avatar

EastCoast Jun 21, 2010 Rating: 0

This is turning into quite a debate, to which I am becoming somewhat addicted. Look, I didn’t say that people kayak and SUP do it because it’s easier, rather who people can’t surf tend to use these kind of water craft for the rare times they get in, to ensure maximum time on waves - these are two distinctly different comments. I am not some wave hogging dick who gets in the water to moan about everyone, intimidate learners and try act like some big shot – that is the definition of a true kook and that aint me - I never have a smile off my face in water and am very relaxed toward to my fellow surfers - however, I have had too many incidents with kayakers not to make an association - especially after last month, when this know kook broke my brothers nose and bust his board. That said I realise that I perhaps have been judging the majority by the minority and this is indeed and erroneous attitude in any respect. In light of this I will consider myself corrected and learn to take it easy next time a kayaker gets the drop on me - Peace out bros

Dr Fargon's avatar

Dr Fargon Jun 21, 2010 Rating: 2

There you go again. You ASUME that I kayak...I don't. You ASUME that the reason people Kayak and SUP is because it's easier. I doubt that's the reason. You forget that you were once a "kook" and had no clue of the rules of edquite on the water. Maybe, just maybe you should talk to one on the beach and find out where his head is at. You make some valid points I admit that, but instead of bitching and hating, you could educate. Maybe they just don't know.

EastCoast's avatar

EastCoast Jun 21, 2010 Rating: -1

Nope - I guess you must kayak so therefore are not aware of the problem. Clearly not ALL kayakers are dumb ass kooks. But it is difficult to deny the reality - of all the spots I have surfed, the biggest problems are caused by dudes in a kayaks and more recently SUP's Because they are perceived as an 'easier' way to get wave time - kooks, therefore, are attracted to such equipment but this sadly means that the rest of us have to endure their clueless attempts to navigate a crowd, avoid running over a dude paddling out, dropping in and simply having no idea some else is on the wave etc etc...

Dr Fargon's avatar

Dr Fargon Jun 21, 2010 Rating: 2

Oh ok...I get it now. It's ok to kayak, as long as they do it where you aren't. Makes sense. Maybe they should have their own spot, kayaks only. It couldn't have a deacent break though because if it started pumping, guess who'd be there droping in? Surfkayak made a good point in his previous post. Assholes come in all phases of the sport. But to make a generalized statement like that would be like me saying all redheaded women are sluts and will cheat on you every chance they get! ( that lying little bitch!)

EastCoast's avatar

EastCoast Jun 21, 2010 Rating: -1

Just give me a fucking break. None of you guys can deny that dudes in kayaks chop up surfers, spongers, body surfers etc etc every time they are in the water. When you wipeout, you're all over the place as you either have no control or are trying some upside down spin over manouver or some shit. I would NEVER say people cant ride waves how they want but I certainly am saying that kayakers are the one who drop in all the time, cause stress to other water users and general make a menac of themsleves.

Reminds me of the bitter rivalry in my track and field days, those long jumpers come down to "our" sand pit, do a gay little jump, land on their backs and the crowed would go mad. Could they not see us tripple jumpers had to hop, skip and jump, consecutively. Thats two thirds more f+*#ing jumping, never mind the distance, were they interested, no to busy cheering the f+*#ing pole vaulters. Dont get me started on the javelin throwers and pole vaulters, cant they see they are going to have someones eye out. Grrrrrr Kooks the lot of them stay out of my sand pit.

Been a great time reading all the comments on my pic, for the record my dog Sullivan picks his days, gotta be 2-4', 10+sec, NNW before he swims out, but that day he was ripping. Gotta say though East Coast, you are one ignorant fool, seriously do you want us to sit at the back of the bus? There are plenty of kayakers I hate seeing out on the break too, for that matter a whack of stand-ups and body boarders fall into that category too. BUT, there are plenty of us here who all respect each others skills regardless of wave riding device, it's about attitude, balls and respect, you're clearly lacking at least one of those. Metaphorically, your saying the only fun way to have sex is missionary. Perhaps that's been the extent of your experience to date, but trust me, be open to a little change, you might actually like it.

I just hate stupid ass kayakers. All they do is drop in, run into surfers and look like pricks with their farking pathetic life jackets and little crash helmets. Just stay out of the water you useless cripples - you have no place in the waves until you learn to respect (or at least acknowledge) other water users – god I hate you all

When I started surfing my kayak years back, a friend told me "don't take it personally when a boardie drops in on you, he's just treating you the way he does everyone else" It's not the craft that make the kook. Looks like goatboater has position anyways.

SurfKayakCancuk's avatar

SurfKayakCancuk Jun 18, 2010 Rating: 0

That's the point my friend, being a prick isn't exclusive to what you ride. How about the rich kid with an $1000 board who can't ride it, drops in on you, bites a rail, falls, kicks his board at your head... not a prick cause he stand on a board? sure is in my book.

Whatever man. I dont care if people want to use kayaks but evreytime one of you guys is in the surf some poor dude get trampled on. you try to bully surfers with your stupid canoes and farkin oars - you wear so much protection it wont effect you. Last winter one of you jerks ran over my bro, bust his nose and snapped 2 fins - prick didnt even say sorry, just carried on looking like a kook as always

Hes got the right idea, much more fun on a kayak on a small day, every wave is over-head and his dog is stoked. Been surfing 20 years and kayaking 5, nearly enjoy it as much and you can get in the water every day. Think if i was in the water with eastcoast riding his swell foamie i would probably loose control and run him over, i presume by your attitude the kayak's you have come across are doing the same, they are aiming for you!! Crazy how people find the need to bitch about a fun pic everyone should enjoy the water equally, except boogyboarders.

that's a classic pic! reminds me of my dog max (RIP) who used to paddle out with me, even in 4 foot surf. one time at Iveys he decided to paddle out and climb on to a rock but couldn't figure out how to get off it, I got a severe caning (and ridiculed from my mates) trying to climb up to get him and had to catch a wave in with him on the front of my bodyboard (he weighed 5 stone too!) good times!
