The Canvey Island 'Paddle for Life' is back... Last year five paddlers braved the tepid waters of the Thames Estuary to raise money on a brave young boy’s birthday.
The Paddlers, including organiser Owen Clements, all paddled 1km in memory of Joe and to raise money for two good causes, the Haven Hospice in Southend, who care for both adults and children with life limiting illnesses and the second being the Precious Lives Appeal, who are building a children’s hospice in Joe's home county of Cornwall.
A great time was had by all and even though only 5 entered the water, there was a great vibe both in the water and on the beach. A post paddle celebration and BBQ rounded off the day.
This years event is on the 19th September from 10.00am. To start the day off there will be a childrens 200 metre paddle followed by the 1km paddle for adults and competent swimmers. This event is being sponsored by local extreme sports shop www.wetndryboardsports.com.
Remember you can paddle any craft surfboard, canoe, kayak or a boat. This year the Canvey Island paddlers are raising money for the Havens Hospice, the Indee Rose Trust and the Precious Lives Appeal. It will be a great family event so come along and paddle or support and have a great time.
