Shit those fish are tough out!!!! anybody know if they taste good ? And is that reef dying or dead or is that my bad geography again....Please don't say that it used to be teaming with life and now that bastard thing they cal the human being has fecked it all up again

The bottom's mostly lava with some coral growing on it. Compared with large landmasses, Hawaii tends to be pretty barren- no upwelling,no continental shelf .
shann Sep 15, 2010 Rating: 1
what are the chances of hitting the reef when wiping out ? Thats the only thing thats really holding me back from trying a reef.
shann Sep 16, 2010 Rating: 1

Dude, Reefs and beachies both have there pros and cons. I've ridden steep, heavy and shallow beachies that will snap your neck if your not paying attention. That being said reefs are awesome too! Both can give great rides........and both command respect..

Dude, I've ridden shallow, heavy and steep beachies that will break your neck if you slip up, but will give you an unbelievable ride if you can stay on...... Reefs are awesome too. Both have there pros an cons.... and both command respect......

Reefs are like women, they give you the ride of your life when treated right. Fuck em around and get sharp coral shoved up your ass........

SHANN Man if ya surf up north .... Sligo lets say... The reefs can be quite forgiving as they are flat slabs where as if your from down here in Kerry they can quite easily bite you in the arse, as they're are pointy bastards ( to put it simply ) start on the smaller days with mates..... Study the reefs on low tide and get some local knowledge... if your down Kerry way I can give you heads up just message my page! Good luck with it... And remember God gave us Big balls !!!!!!!!!
samhuestis Sep 15, 2010 Rating: 1
yea its just too much to classify something as reef break, there's like a pipeline type break in which case if you don't know what you're you doing is to be criminally negligent, or some of Rincon's perfect reefs where you could eat it in way overhead surf and be genuinely safe.

There's a very good chance of hitting the reef here! This particular day I was shooting the right and was often standing on reef in less than waist deep water. I absolutely loooooved learning on sand. When you feel like you are reading waves really well, transfer over to reef and you'd probably be surprised that it's easier to read.....unless you're talking a barreling slab. That's just a fast challenge no matter what the bottom is like. Yew!
fondel Sep 15, 2010 Rating: -3
very well put....your never get that dream wave if you stick to sand banks.

we have shark week on discovery channel.. i think we may need a carpe week. btw bro, nice shot.
tulamben Sep 15, 2010 Rating: 10
Carpe is actually a fish or an amphibious human that spends most of his time underwater and only ventures on dry land to upload photos and to mate the females of Oahu. He’s clearly acquired some serious skills in his time at sea. Another beauty shot Carpe! High five to you bro
