Ken from L.C.'s photo of Lincoln City

We found this shark laying dead on the beach after our session. The shark was missing it's dorsal fin, we assume a fisherman caught it by mistake and then killed the shark by cutting off it's fin for whatever reason. The Fall salmon run is on here in the Northwest and the great white sharks are here hunting the seals that follow the salmon.

Not a whitey, you see these mini versions every once and while around here: Once a year, one of natures great spectacles takes place on the northernmost coast of the Gulf of Alaska (also the Pacific NW). It is a predestined collision of two massive migrations - a David and Goliath event - when thousands of ravenous salmon sharks gather to attack millions of Pacific salmon. The salmon are desperately trying to reach their spawning grounds in Prince William Sound. The sharks are there to gorge themselves. In the end, the salmon run on an urgency born of their need to reproduce while the sharks run on hunger. Great episode on these little rippers: http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/series/nature-untamed/4032/Overview#ixzz12jbJqgs1

Your right about it being a Salmon Shark. You can see that its mouth has long singular rows of teeth that are pointed a little bit forward; a classic example of a Salmon Shark. Perfectly situated to pierce and shred salmon. It is also a juvenile Salmon Shark. There are many reasons why such young Salmon Sharks wash ashore, one big one being simple starvation. The severed dorsal fin was most likely taken by biologists on the water. The carcass was probably thrown back into the food chain after they collected measurements and other info need for mortality studies.
