It's all in the timing for the Steamer Lane airdrop. CWC day 4 was a boon of a day.

It's exactly the same set up to jump in the water on one of our home breaks... except the rocks are sharper & gnarlier. Very often, visitors watch us jump in from that rocks & choose to do the same. Some of 'em don't see an important point : we ALWAYS grab our leash before jumping! These poor fellas often get their leash caught up the rocks & get totally smashed by the waves before they understand what happened to them! "Pull of your leaaaaash! Pull of da leaaaaash!"

and on a small tide, always land on a bodyboarder, nice squashy landing that stops you from hitting the bottom.

cold cold!!!! grow some, then as soon as you hit the water they retract into your arm pits
nomadic_woodlouse Oct 22, 2010 Rating: -1
He's not jumping off the rocks here - he's actually doing a new crazy and really high air where you pull your board under your arm like that. Impressive! :D

How is this a COLD WATER comp, the guy ain't even wearing booties! Thats not cold water! Come to England in january in a freezing onshore wind, now thats what I call cold.
shoredump_charger Oct 25, 2010 Rating: 1
i'm not complaining, i was just stating the fact that it can't have been that cold during the comp coz the fella ain't wearing boots and it seems stupid to premote an event as a 'CWC' when those are the conditions that a large proportion of surfers surf most of the year. i don't give a shit where you live and who surfs the coldest break. next time i'll keep my mouth shut and just go surfing instead. peace.

If your home break is so cold, just dont go out and stop complaining

I am so glad I have no comprehension of proper cold water. Here in the Bahamas when it's cold I just turn the a/c off.

YEAH YOU WANT COLD...? HUH PUNK DO YA HUH ? WELL I SURF THE FREEZER SECTION OF MY LOCAL TESCOS
Ratbag Oct 23, 2010 Rating: 1
Cold? Try Hokkaido in January. You have to skate your board across the 2m of snow just to get to the water.
Puts_Mania Oct 23, 2010 Rating: 2
Haha, East Runton, Febuary, Northerly swell offshore winds. I have to pee every 5 minuts just to keep my legs blood circulation going :D
Kylo Oct 22, 2010 Rating: 12

jae Oct 22, 2010 Rating: 2
I grew up in Cornwall surfing and now live in San Francisco which is a 40min drive form steamer lane.. It is bloody freezing here. I have surfed all year round here and January here is ridiculous the north westerly swells bring all of the cold water from Alaska and the antartic. IN the summer we receive a lot of south swells which are caused by big tropicalstorms in the south pacific which pushes up warm water from the tropics which allows you to wear no bootys in the late summer... It's still bloody cold here though

Yeah granted Scotland is cold, especially during last year's comp when the air temp was something like -5, but is this really worthy of a title like cwc...the conditions these guys are surfing in is better than we get for 8/9 months of the year (temp and weather wise).

Believe me pal it is cold, went to Carmel(more south) in June a few years ago, it was colder than the east coast of Scotland. The locals in San Diego told me a 6mm suit was needed for the San Francisco area.

How about Scotland, because they held this comp there in March.
Gavin Rother Oct 22, 2010 Rating: -1

Love the photo, the site, everything MSW, really do...but I'm in a shameless mood and need some help. Against everything that I am, I'm trying to draw attention to myself to win a round-the-world travel/surf journo competition. It's the coolest competition I've ever seen in my life, and somehow I've become a finalist. Check out my blog, it's brand new...but maybe you'll dig it and fall into my corner. For good or ill, here it is: http://www.theswellmovement.com/

Where do you think most of the new euphemisms in our pop culture/Urban Dictionary come from? The dudette of course! Ever heard of 'tickling the trout'?...You will.=0

That is the first time I have seen the verb (?) "brown tongued". Disturbing spongebabesquarepants.... disturbing
Spongerdudette Oct 22, 2010 Rating: 0
Not sure if you've brown tongued enough there about the photo and this site. I was going to +1 your comment for being ''shameless'' and having the nerve to post it...but then I changed my mind. And btw it's a great shot, +5 and saved to fav's.
