Well below freezing; wind chill well below that; well overhead; minutes before sunset; and this guy was out there alone at this beach break.

Hey tjo...we've been given the green-go light on the renegade moose mission...code name: 'terminate with extreme prejudice'(see what I did there?)...I tried to include that rousing attack music...Wagner's 'Ride Of The Valkeries'...from 'Apocalypse Now'...but the bastards at Lionsgate have blocked it from all the YouTube music videos of that scene. Dammit! All I could come up with was this...Moose Hunting Song...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XjawM5UzQoQ...I know...pretty lame compared to Wagner...but hey...it's too close to Christmas to get all war-like anyway. So all you dudette supportin' Weeders out there...it's moose huntin' season!!!

The person that shot this photo is trying to MAKE IT SEEM as though this surfer is 'gnarly' or 'charging bro'. Yeah it may be cold, but I'm sure the NE (north east or new england (thats up for interpretation)) can't be that bad

Take no notice of ''Moose'' XX Check This X, and hopefully you'll understand that we're not all like that.

And this (much better pic from a camera that probably doesn't fit in a pocket) - http://magicseaweed.com/photoLab/viewPhoto.php?photoId=198811 - was earlier in the day about 2 miles north of The Wall. As to my pic: I saw no one else out there at sunset in that mile of beach break, but even this guy was hidden most of the time behind the swells. I left my board in the car, even though it was begging to be taken walkies.

i love how you euro guys think you know what surfing the east coast in the winter is like. nor'easters bring icy barrels all winter long. this guy is obviously charging harder than anyone if he is the only one out.

Your surety is enough for me. Should I feel a trifle embarrassed? Yes ... yes, I rather think should. There - I'm feeling it. Are we good, then, er, bro?

Nice looking wave, but that rider out there alone?? Is he brave or crazy!!!

The answer to that question is yes. On the other hand, very few people could have made it through the white water to get that far outside, and since he was one of the few, I'm presuming he knew what he was doing. Everyone else I saw out that evening was up north at the points, which are long paddles when it's big, but you can do it without getting beat up.
